So it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

Now it happened in those days that the Philistines gathered their armies together for war, to fight with Israel. And Achish said to David,“ You assuredly know that you will go out with me to battle, you and your men.”

Then the young man who told him said,“ As I happened by chance to be on Mount Gilboa, there was Saul, leaning on his spear; and indeed the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

“ O mountains of Gilboa, Let there be no dew nor rain upon you, Nor fields of offerings. For the shield of the mighty is cast away there! The shield of Saul, not anointed with oil.
