All these were fighting men who volunteered to serve in the ranks. They came to Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel. All the rest of the Israelites were also of one mind to make David king.

大衛出去迎見他們，對他們說：“你們若是存著和平的心到我這裡來幫助我，我就與你們結盟，但你們若是把我這無辜的人出賣給我的敵人，就願我們列祖的神鑒察和審判。”當時，神的靈降在那三十個勇士的首領亞瑪撒身上，他就說：“大衛啊，我們是來歸從你；耶西的兒子啊，我們是來跟隨你；願你平平安安，願幫助你的人也都平安，因為你的神幫助了你。”於是大衛收留了他們，立他們作軍長。

在你征戰的日子，你的人民都樂意投身；你的少年人以聖潔為裝飾，好像清晨的甘露，到你那裡。

西布倫支派的子孫中，能出去作戰、可以使用各種兵器，行軍整齊、不生二心的，共有五萬人。

以色列眾支派都到希伯崙來見大衛，說：“看哪！我們都是你的骨肉至親。從前掃羅作我們的王的時候，領導以色列人行動的是你。耶和華也曾對你說：‘你要牧養我的子民以色列，要作以色列的領袖。’”以色列的眾長老都到希伯崙來見王。大衛王在希伯崙耶和華面前與他們立約，他們就膏立大衛作以色列的王。

猶大啊，你的兄弟們要稱讚你；你的手必壓住仇敵的頸項；你父親的眾子必向你下拜。猶大是隻小獅子；我兒啊，你獵取了食物就上到洞穴去。他屈身伏臥，好像公獅，又像母獅，誰敢驚動他呢？權杖必不離開猶大，王圭必不離他兩腳之間，直到細羅﹙“細羅”有古譯本作“屬他的那位”﹚來到，萬族都要臣服他。

“唉，耶和華啊！求你記念我曾怎樣以真誠和完全的心在你面前行事為人，我所行的都是你看為善的事。”希西家就痛哭起來。

“我要把一顆心賜給他們，把新的靈放在他們裡面；我要從他們肉體中除掉石心，賜給他們肉心，

所羅門年老的時候，他的妃嬪誘惑他的心偏離了神去隨從別的神。他的心不像他的父親大衛那樣完全歸於耶和華他的神。

神的能力也幫助猶大人，使他們一心遵行王和眾領袖奉耶和華的命令發出的吩咐。
