Then David said,“ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to console him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the sons of Ammon to Hanun to console him.

大衛說：『我要以厚愛待拿轄的兒子哈嫩，因為他父親以厚愛待我。』於是大衛差遣使者為了哈嫩父親的喪事去慰問他。大衛的臣僕到了亞捫人之地去見哈嫩要慰問他。

大衛曰、昔哈嫩父拿轄施仁慈於我、今我將施仁慈於其子哈嫩、遂遣使往、唁其喪父、大衛僕至亞捫族地、見哈嫩以唁之、

大闢曰、昔拿轄善待我、我必善待其子、乃遣臣僕、唁其喪父、大闢臣僕詣亞捫族之地、見哈嫩而唁之。

大衛曰、昔哈嫩父拿轄厚待我、今我必厚待哈嫩、於是大衛遣使唁其喪父、大衛之臣僕至亞捫地、欲見哈嫩而唁之、

David thought,“ I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent a delegation to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father. When David’s envoys came to Hanun in the land of the Ammonites to express sympathy to him,

David thought,“ I’m going to be kind to Hanun. His father Nahash was kind to me.” So David sent messengers to Hanun. He wanted them to tell Hanun how sad he was that Hanun’s father had died. David’s messengers went to the land of Ammon. They told Hanun how sad David was.

And David said,“ I will deal kindly with Hanun the son of Nahash, for his father dealt kindly with me.” So David sent messengers to console him concerning his father. And David’s servants came to the land of the Ammonites to Hanun to console him.

David said,“ I am going to show loyalty to Hanun because his father, Nahash, was always loyal to me.” So David sent messengers to express sympathy to Hanun about his father’s death. But when David’s ambassadors arrived in the land of Ammon,

Then David said,“ I’ll show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to console him concerning his father. However, when David’s emissaries arrived in the land of the Ammonites to console him,

Then David said,“ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And David’s servants came to Hanun in the land of the people of Ammon to comfort him.

And David said, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me. So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

Then David said,“ I’ll show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to console him concerning his father. However, when David’s emissaries arrived in the land of the Ammonites to console him,

And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

David said,“ I will express my loyalty to Hanun son of Nahash, for his father was loyal to me.” So David sent messengers to express his sympathy over his father’s death. When David’s servants entered Ammonite territory to visit Hanun and express the king’s sympathy,

David said,“ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

Now when David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the spoils to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying,“ Behold, a gift for you from the spoils of the enemies of the Lord:

No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord; none of their descendants, even to the tenth generation, may ever enter the assembly of the Lord,because they did not meet you with food and water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.Nevertheless, the Lord your God was unwilling to listen to Balaam, but the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you because the Lord your God loves you.You shall never seek their peace or their prosperity all your days.

The firstborn gave birth to a son, and named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.As for the younger, she also gave birth to a son, and named him Ben ammi; he is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day.

Now Tobiah the Ammonite was near him, and he said,“ Even what they are building— if a fox were to jump on it, it would break their stone wall down!”

And he said to him,“ Say now to her,‘ Behold, you have taken trouble for us with all this care; what can I do for you? Would you like me to speak for you to the king or to the commander of the army?’ ” But she answered,“ I live among my own people.”

Then the king said,“ What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” And the king’s servants who attended him said,“ Nothing has been done for him.”

But there was found in it a poor wise man, and he saved the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man.

Then David said,“ Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul, so that I could show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

On that day the Book of Moses was read aloud as the people listened; and there was found written in it that no Ammonite or Moabite was ever to enter the assembly of God,

Now when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that the repair of the walls of Jerusalem went on, and that the breaches began to be closed, they were very angry.

Then David said to him,“ Do not be afraid, for I will assuredly show kindness to you for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul; and you yourself shall eat at my table regularly.”
