But the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun,“ Do you think, because David has sent comforters to you, that he is honoring your father? Have not his servants come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?”

亚扪的官长却对哈嫩说：“大卫派人来安慰你，你以为他是来吊唁你父亲吗？他的臣仆来见你不过是来探听虚实，想征服这地方。”

但亚扪人的众领袖对哈嫩说：“大卫差派这些慰问的人到你这里来，你以为他是尊敬你父亲吗？他的臣仆来见你，不是为了窥探、倾覆、侦察这地吗？”

亞捫族之牧伯謂哈嫩曰、大衛遣唁者詣爾、爾意大衛果敬爾父乎、其僕詣爾、詎非窺察此地、而滅之耶、

亞捫族諸伯告哈嫩曰、爾謂大闢唁爾父喪、其意豈在尊崇乎。蓋遣其臣、詳察我地、使我敗亡耳。

亞捫之侯伯謂哈嫩曰、大衛遣使來唁王、王以為大衛果敬王父乎、其臣僕來見王、乃欲窺探斯地以傾滅之、

the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun,“ Do you think David is honoring your father by sending envoys to you to express sympathy? Haven’t his envoys come to you only to explore and spy out the country and overthrow it?”

The Ammonite commanders spoke to Hanun. They said,“ David has sent messengers to tell you he is sad. They say he wants to honor your father. But the real reason they’ve come is to look the land over. They want to destroy it.”

the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun,“ Do you really think these men are coming here to honor your father? No! David has sent them to spy out the land so they can come in and conquer it!”

the Ammonite leaders said to Hanun,“ Just because David has sent men with condolences for you, do you really believe he’s showing respect for your father? Instead, haven’t his emissaries come in order to scout out, overthrow, and spy on the land?”

But the commanders among the sons of Ammon said to Hanun,“ Do you think that David is honoring your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Have his servants not come to you to search, to demolish, and to spy out the land?”

And the princes of the people of Ammon said to Hanun,“ Do you think that David really honors your father because he has sent comforters to you? Did his servants not come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?”

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honor thy father, in that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

the Ammonite leaders said to Hanun,“ Just because David has sent men with condolences for you, do you really believe he’s showing respect for your father? Instead, hasn’t David sent his emissaries in order to scout out, overthrow, and spy on the land?”

the Ammonite officials said to Hanun,“ Do you really think David is trying to honor your father by sending these messengers to express his sympathy? No, his servants have come to you so they can get information and spy out the land!”

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun,“ Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”

And the house of Joseph scouted out Bethel.( Now the name of the city was formerly Luz.)And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him,“ Please show us the way into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.”

But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him. And the commanders of the Philistines said to him,“ Send the man back, that he may return to the place to which you have assigned him. He shall not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here?

And Achish answered David and said,“ I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God. Nevertheless, the commanders of the Philistines have said,‘ He shall not go up with us to the battle.’

And when they came to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol, their brothers said to them,“ What do you report?”They said,“ Arise, and let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. And will you do nothing? Do not be slow to go, to enter in and possess the land.As soon as you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people. The land is spacious, for God has given it into your hands, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.”

And Joseph remembered the dreams that he had dreamed of them. And he said to them,“ You are spies; you have come to see the nakedness of the land.”They said to him,“ No, my lord, your servants have come to buy food.We are all sons of one man. We are honest men. Your servants have never been spies.”He said to them,“ No, it is the nakedness of the land that you have come to see.”And they said,“ We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan, and behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is no more.”But Joseph said to them,“ It is as I said to you. You are spies.By this you shall be tested: by the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go from this place unless your youngest brother comes here.Send one of you, and let him bring your brother, while you remain confined, that your words may be tested, whether there is truth in you. Or else, by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies.”And he put them all together in custody for three days.On the third day Joseph said to them,“ Do this and you will live, for I fear God:

So the people of Dan sent five able men from the whole number of their tribe, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to explore it. And they said to them,“ Go and explore the land.” And they came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.

And Joshua the son of Nun sent two men secretly from Shittim as spies, saying,“ Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” And they went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and lodged there.And it was told to the king of Jericho,“ Behold, men of Israel have come here tonight to search out the land.”Then the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying,“ Bring out the men who have come to you, who entered your house, for they have come to search out all the land.”
