When David heard what had happened to the men, he sent messengers to tell them,“ Stay at Jericho until your beards grow out, and then come back.” For they felt deep shame because of their appearance.

When someone came and told David about the men, he sent messengers to meet them, for they were greatly humiliated. The king said,“ Stay at Jericho till your beards have grown, and then come back.”

Someone came and told David what had happened to his men. So David sent messengers to them because they were filled with shame. King David said to them,“ Stay at Jericho until your beards grow out again. Then come back here.”

and they departed. When David was told concerning the men, he sent messengers to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said,“ Remain at Jericho until your beards have grown and then return.”

It was reported to David about his men, so he sent messengers to meet them, since the men were deeply humiliated. The king said,“ Stay in Jericho until your beards grow back; then return.”

Then certain people went and told David about the men. And he sent messengers to meet them, because the men were very humiliated. And the king said,“ Stay at Jericho until your beards grow back, then return.”

Then there went certain persons, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

It was reported to David about his men, so he sent messengers to meet them, since the men were deeply humiliated. The king said,“ Stay in Jericho until your beards grow back; then return.”

Then there went[ certain], and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and[ then] return.

Messengers came and told David what had happened to the men, so he summoned them, for the men were thoroughly humiliated. The king said,“ Stay in Jericho until your beards grow again; then you may come back.”

Then some people went and told David how the men were treated. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said,“ Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

Then the Israelites burned the town and everything in it. Only the things made from silver, gold, bronze, or iron were kept for the treasury of the Lord’s house.So Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute and her relatives who were with her in the house, because she had hidden the spies Joshua sent to Jericho. And she lives among the Israelites to this day.At that time Joshua invoked this curse:“ May the curse of the Lord fall on anyone who tries to rebuild the town of Jericho. At the cost of his firstborn son, he will lay its foundation. At the cost of his youngest son, he will set up its gates.”

But before long, his hair began to grow back.

It was during his reign that Hiel, a man from Bethel, rebuilt Jericho. When he laid its foundations, it cost him the life of his oldest son, Abiram. And when he completed it and set up its gates, it cost him the life of his youngest son, Segub. This all happened according to the message from the Lord concerning Jericho spoken by Joshua son of Nun.

“ When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened.
