约押侦察城的时候，知道敌人哪里有勇士，就派乌利亚到那地方。城里的人出来和约押打仗，大卫的仆人中有几个士兵被杀，赫人乌利亚也死了。于是，约押派人去将战争的一切事奏告大卫，又吩咐使者说：“你把战争的一切事对王说完了，王若发怒，对你说：‘你们打仗为什么挨近城呢？岂不知敌人会从城墙上射箭吗？从前击杀耶路比设的儿子亚比米勒的是谁呢？岂不是一个妇人从城墙上抛下一块上磨石来，打在他身上，他就死在提备斯吗？你们为什么挨近城墙呢？’你就说：‘你的仆人赫人乌利亚也死了。’”使者就去，照着约押所吩咐的一切话来奏告大卫。使者对大卫说：“敌人强过我们，出到郊外攻打我们，我们把他们赶回到城门口。弓箭手从城墙上射你的仆人，射死几个王的仆人，你的仆人赫人乌利亚也死了。”大卫向使者说：“你对约押这样说：‘不要为这事难过，因为刀剑可能吞灭这人或那人。你只管竭力攻城，将城倾覆。’你要勉励约押。”

你要划定一条路，使刀来到亚扪人的拉巴，来到犹大，在坚固城耶路撒冷。
