願耶和華賦爾智慧、恪守其律例、用治以色列族。

願主賦爾聰明智慧、使爾治以色列、謹守主爾天主之律法、

May the Lord give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the Lord your God.

May the Lord give you good sense. May he give you understanding when he makes you king over Israel. Then you will keep the law of the Lord your God.

Only, may the Lord grant you discretion and understanding, that when he gives you charge over Israel you may keep the law of the Lord your God.

And may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding, that you may obey the Law of the Lord your God as you rule over Israel.

Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when he puts you in charge of Israel so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.

求你賜我智慧治理你的子民，並能辨別是非；不然，我又怎能治理你這眾多的子民呢？」主喜悅所羅門的祈求，對他說：「既然你不為自己求壽、求財富，也不求滅絕仇敵，只求有智慧治理我的子民，我必應允你，賜給你空前絕後的智慧和悟性。

現在，求你賜我智慧和知識以帶領他們。不然，誰能治理這麼多的百姓呢？」

明哲憑智慧辨道，愚人被愚昧欺騙。

如果你們誰缺少智慧，就當求慷慨施恩、不責備人的上帝，上帝必賜給他智慧。

因為耶和華賜人智慧，知識和悟性出自祂的口。祂使正直人充滿智慧，是行為純全者的盾牌。

上帝啊，求你將你的公正賜給王，將你的公義賜給王的兒子。

因為我會賜給你們口才、智慧，使你們的仇敵全無反駁的餘地。

我們若遵行上帝的命令，就知道自己認識祂。

除了埃及公主以外，所羅門王還寵愛許多外邦女子，有摩押人、亞捫人、以東人、西頓人和赫人。耶和華曾告訴以色列人不可跟這些外族人通婚，免得受引誘去隨從他們的神明，所羅門卻迷戀這些女子。他有七百個妻子，都是外國的公主，還有三百個妃嬪。這些女子使他的心背棄耶和華。所羅門年老的時候，他的嬪妃誘惑他的心去追隨別的神明。他沒有像他父親大衛那樣忠心順服他的上帝耶和華。所羅門拜西頓人的女神亞斯她錄和亞捫人的可憎神明米勒公。他做了耶和華視為惡的事，沒有像他父親大衛那樣忠心順服耶和華。在耶路撒冷東面的山上，所羅門为摩押人可憎的神明基抹和亞捫人可憎的神明摩洛修建邱壇。他又為所有的外邦妃嬪修建邱壇，供她們向自己的神明燒香獻祭。所羅門背棄了曾兩次向他顯現的以色列的上帝耶和華，違背耶和華的命令去隨從別的神明。所以，耶和華向他發怒，

你們要謹遵這些律例和典章，因為這樣就會讓外族人看見你們的智慧和聰明。他們聽見這些律法後，必說，『這偉大的民族真有智慧和聰明！』
