But Aaron and his descendants were the ones who presented offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense in connection with all that was done in the Most Holy Place, making atonement for Israel, in accordance with all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

Aaron and his sons after him brought the offerings. They sacrificed them on the altar of burnt offering. They also burned incense on the altar of incense. That was part of what they did in the Most Holy Room. That’s how they paid for the sin of Israel. They did everything just as Moses, the servant of God, had commanded.

But Aaron and his sons made offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense for all the work of the Most Holy Place, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

Only Aaron and his descendants served as priests. They presented the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and the altar of incense, and they performed all the other duties related to the Most Holy Place. They made atonement for Israel by doing everything that Moses, the servant of God, had commanded them.

“ You shall make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits long, and five cubits wide. The altar shall be square. Its height shall be three cubits.You shall make its horns on its four corners. Its horns shall be of one piece with it. You shall overlay it with bronze.You shall make its pots to take away its ashes; and its shovels, its basins, its meat hooks, and its fire pans. You shall make all its vessels of bronze.You shall make a grating for it of network of bronze. On the net you shall make four bronze rings in its four corners.You shall put it under the ledge around the altar beneath, that the net may reach halfway up the altar.You shall make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze.Its poles shall be put into the rings, and the poles shall be on the two sides of the altar when carrying it.You shall make it hollow with planks. They shall make it as it has been shown you on the mountain.

“ You shall make an altar to burn incense on. You shall make it of acacia wood.Its length shall be a cubit, and its width a cubit. It shall be square, and its height shall be two cubits. Its horns shall be of one piece with it.You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top, its sides around it, and its horns; and you shall make a gold molding around it.You shall make two golden rings for it under its molding; on its two ribs, on its two sides you shall make them; and they shall be for places for poles with which to bear it.You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.You shall put it before the veil that is by the ark of the covenant, before the mercy seat that is over the covenant, where I will meet with you.Aaron shall burn incense of sweet spices on it every morning. When he tends the lamps, he shall burn it.

Thus shall he do with the bull; as he did with the bull of the sin offering, so shall he do with this; and the priest shall make atonement for them, and they shall be forgiven.

Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once in the year; with the blood of the sin offering of atonement once in the year he shall make atonement for it throughout your generations. It is most holy to Yahweh.”Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“ When you take a census of the children of Israel, according to those who are counted among them, then each man shall give a ransom for his soul to Yahweh, when you count them; that there be no plague among them when you count them.They shall give this, everyone who passes over to those who are counted, half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary( the shekel is twenty gerahs); half a shekel for an offering to Yahweh.Everyone who passes over to those who are counted, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the offering to Yahweh.The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when they give the offering of Yahweh, to make atonement for your souls.You shall take the atonement money from the children of Israel, and shall appoint it for the service of the Tent of Meeting; that it may be a memorial for the children of Israel before Yahweh, to make atonement for your souls.”

Yahweh said to Moses,“ Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them,‘ A priest shall not defile himself for the dead among his people,except for his relatives that are near to him: for his mother, for his father, for his son, for his daughter, for his brother,and for his virgin sister who is near to him, who has had no husband; for her he may defile himself.He shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.“‘ They shall not shave their heads or shave off the corners of their beards or make any cuttings in their flesh.They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God, for they offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, the bread of their God. Therefore they shall be holy.“‘ They shall not marry a woman who is a prostitute, or profane. A priest shall not marry a woman divorced from her husband; for he is holy to his God.Therefore you shall sanctify him, for he offers the bread of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I Yahweh, who sanctify you, am holy.“‘ The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the prostitute, she profanes her father. She shall be burned with fire.“‘ He who is the high priest among his brothers, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and who is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, or tear his clothes.He must not go in to any dead body, or defile himself for his father or for his mother.He shall not go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him. I am Yahweh.“‘ He shall take a wife in her virginity.He shall not marry a widow, or one divorced, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute. He shall take a virgin of his own people as a wife.He shall not profane his offspring among his people, for I am Yahweh who sanctifies him.’”Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“ Say to Aaron,‘ None of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect may approach to offer the bread of his God.For whatever man he is that has a defect, he shall not draw near: a blind man, or a lame, or he who has a flat nose, or any deformity,or a man who has an injured foot, or an injured hand,or hunchbacked, or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye, or an itching disease, or scabs, or who has damaged testicles.No man of the offspring of Aaron the priest who has a defect shall come near to offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire. Since he has a defect, he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.

The priest shall make atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and they shall be forgiven; for it was an error, and they have brought their offering, an offering made by fire to Yahweh, and their sin offering before Yahweh, for their error.

He shall kill the bull before Yahweh. Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall present the blood and sprinkle the blood around on the altar that is at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

They shall eat those things with which atonement was made, to consecrate and sanctify them; but a stranger shall not eat of it, because they are holy.

The sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar, and lay wood in order on the fire;and Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall lay the pieces, the head, and the fat in order on the wood that is on the fire which is on the altar;but he shall wash its innards and its legs with water. The priest shall burn all of it on the altar, for a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to Yahweh.

The priests and the Levites— all the tribe of Levi— shall have no portion nor inheritance with Israel. They shall eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire and his portion.They shall have no inheritance among their brothers. Yahweh is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them.This shall be the priests’ due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give to the priest: the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the inner parts.You shall give him the first fruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep.For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in Yahweh’s name, him and his sons forever.If a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel where he lives, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which Yahweh shall choose,then he shall minister in the name of Yahweh his God, as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahweh.They shall have like portions to eat, in addition to that which comes from the sale of his family possessions.

So Moses the servant of Yahweh died there in the land of Moab, according to Yahweh’s word.

Every day you shall offer the bull of sin offering for atonement. You shall cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it. You shall anoint it, to sanctify it.Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar, and sanctify it; and the altar shall be most holy. Whatever touches the altar shall be holy.

Moses said to Korah,“ You and all your company go before Yahweh, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow.Each man take his censer and put incense on it, and each man bring before Yahweh his censer, two hundred fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each with his censer.”They each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and stood at the door of the Tent of Meeting with Moses and Aaron.Korah assembled all the congregation opposite them to the door of the Tent of Meeting. Yahweh’s glory appeared to all the congregation.Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,“ Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!”They fell on their faces, and said,“ God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“ Speak to the congregation, saying,‘ Get away from around the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram!’”Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.He spoke to the congregation, saying,“ Depart, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins!”So they went away from the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side. Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood at the door of their tents with their wives, their sons, and their little ones.Moses said,“ Hereby you shall know that Yahweh has sent me to do all these works; for they are not from my own mind.If these men die the common death of all men, or if they experience what all men experience, then Yahweh hasn’t sent me.But if Yahweh makes a new thing, and the ground opens its mouth, and swallows them up with all that belong to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall understand that these men have despised Yahweh.”As he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split apart.The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, all of Korah’s men, and all their goods.So they, and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol. The earth closed on them, and they perished from among the assembly.All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said,“ Lest the earth swallow us up!”Fire came out from Yahweh, and devoured the two hundred fifty men who offered the incense.Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“ Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter the fire away from the camp; for they are holy,even the censers of those who sinned against their own lives. Let them be beaten into plates for a covering of the altar, for they offered them before Yahweh. Therefore they are holy. They shall be a sign to the children of Israel.”Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers which those who were burned had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar,to be a memorial to the children of Israel, to the end that no stranger who isn’t of the offspring of Aaron, would come near to burn incense before Yahweh, that he not be as Korah, and as his company; as Yahweh spoke to him by Moses.But on the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and against Aaron, saying,“ You have killed Yahweh’s people!”When the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, they looked toward the Tent of Meeting. Behold, the cloud covered it, and Yahweh’s glory appeared.Moses and Aaron came to the front of the Tent of Meeting.Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“ Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!” They fell on their faces.Moses said to Aaron,“ Take your censer, put fire from the altar in it, lay incense on it, carry it quickly to the congregation, and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from Yahweh! The plague has begun.”Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the middle of the assembly. The plague had already begun among the people. He put on the incense, and made atonement for the people.He stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.Now those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, in addition to those who died about the matter of Korah.Aaron returned to Moses to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and the plague was stopped.Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“ Speak to the children of Israel, and take rods from them, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.You shall write Aaron’s name on Levi’s rod. There shall be one rod for each head of their fathers’ houses.You shall lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the covenant, where I meet with you.It shall happen that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud. I will make the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you, cease from me.”Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, a total of twelve rods. Aaron’s rod was among their rods.Moses laid up the rods before Yahweh in the Tent of the Testimony.On the next day, Moses went into the Tent of the Testimony; and behold, Aaron’s rod for the house of Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.Moses brought out all the rods from before Yahweh to all the children of Israel. They looked, and each man took his rod.Yahweh said to Moses,“ Put back the rod of Aaron before the covenant, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their complaining against me, that they not die.”Moses did so. As Yahweh commanded him, so he did.The children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying,“ Behold, we perish! We are undone! We are all undone!Everyone who keeps approaching Yahweh’s tabernacle, dies! Will we all perish?”

Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood( for under it the people have received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also in the law.For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Judah, about which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

then God is gracious to him, and says,‘ Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“ Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and the bull of the sin offering, and the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread;and assemble all the congregation at the door of the Tent of Meeting.”Moses did as Yahweh commanded him; and the congregation was assembled at the door of the Tent of Meeting.Moses said to the congregation,“ This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded to be done.”Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water.He put the tunic on him, tied the sash on him, clothed him with the robe, put the ephod on him, and he tied the skillfully woven band of the ephod on him and fastened it to him with it.He placed the breastplate on him. He put the Urim and Thummim in the breastplate.He set the turban on his head. He set the golden plate, the holy crown, on the front of the turban, as Yahweh commanded Moses.Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and sanctified them.

Now after the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, Yahweh spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying,
