以色列人向永恆主哀呼，永恆主就為他們興起了一位拯救者、便雅憫人基拉的兒子以笏，一個能用左手的人。以色列人由他經手送貢物給摩押王伊磯倫。以笏打了一把刀，是雙刃的，長一短肘，裝束在右腿上長衣底下。他把貢物呈獻給摩押王伊磯倫；伊磯倫原是個極胖的人。以笏呈獻完了貢物，便將抬貢物的平民打發走。自己卻從靠近吉甲的眾雕像那裏回來，說：『王啊，我有一件機密事要奏告你。』王說：『迴避。』於是左右站班的人都從他面前退出去。以笏來到王那裏；王正獨自坐在他涼爽的房頂屋子。以笏說：『我有上帝的話要報告你』；王從座位上站起來。以笏便伸左手、從右腿上拔出刀來，戳入王的肚子；連刀柄也跟刀身進去；脂肪把刀身夾住；他沒有把刀從王肚子裏拔出來；連糞也流出來了。以笏出來到走廊，將房頂屋子的門都關起來，把王關在裏面，並且閂上。以笏出來之後，王的僕人來到，一看，只見房頂屋子的門都閂上，就說：王必是在涼屋內室裏大便。趕等得慌了，見他仍然沒有打開房頂屋子的門，就拿鑰匙來開；哎呀，他們的主上早已倒在地上死了。他們躭延的時候、以笏逃跑了；他經過眾雕像那裏，朝着西伊拉逃跑。既已到了，就在以法蓮山地吹號角；以色列人從山地和他一同下來，他在他們前面領路；對他們說：『你們在我後面追趕着，因為永恆主已把你們的仇敵摩押人交在你們手裏了。他們就跟着他下去，把守約但河的渡口、攔截摩押人，不容一個過去。那時他們擊殺了摩押人約有一萬，都是肥壯的、都是有力氣的人，沒有一個逃脫。就在那一天、摩押就在以色列人手下被制伏了。於是地方太平八十年。
