晚餐後，他也照樣拿起杯來，說：「這杯是用我的血所立的新約，為你們所流的。

為此，基督做了新約的中保，藉著死贖清了人在第一個約之下的過犯，好使那些蒙召的人可以得到所應許的永恆繼業。要知道，遺囑在哪裡生效，立遺囑之人的死亡就必須得到證實。事實上，人死了，遺囑才能確立，因為立遺囑之人活著的時候，遺囑絕對不能生效。原來不用血，第一個約也不能成立，就是說，摩西按照律法向全體民眾宣講了所有的誡命之後，拿了牛犢和山羊的血，摻上水，用深紅色的羊毛和牛膝草，灑在那書卷上和全體民眾身上，說：「這是立約的血，是神吩咐給你們的。」

願賜平安的神，就是藉著永恆之約的血，把群羊的大牧人我們的主耶穌從死人中領上來的那一位，

他也使我們能夠做新約的僕人——不屬於律法條文，而屬於聖靈；因為律法條文帶來死亡，而聖靈卻賜予生命。

我們所祝謝的福杯，難道不是在基督之血裡的一種契合嗎？我們所掰的餅，難道不是在基督身體裡的一種契合嗎？

可是，他們的心思剛硬；事實上，直到今天誦讀舊約的時候，同樣的帕子仍然存在，沒有被揭去，因為那帕子只有在基督裡才被除去。

因此無論誰，不合宜地吃主的餅、喝主的杯，就是干犯主的身體、主的血。這樣，一個人應當省察自己，然後才吃這餅、喝這杯。
