使我無愛德、雖罄輸所有、以濟貧寒、甚至捨身以投諸火、亦何益之有。

If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Suppose I give everything I have to poor people. And suppose I give myself over to a difficult life so I can brag. If I don’t have love, I get nothing at all.

If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

And if I give away all my possessions, and if I give over my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.

And if I give away all my possessions to charity, and if I surrender my body so that I may glory, but do not have love, it does me no good.

Let us not become vainglorious, provoking one another, envying one another.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death.For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Be not carried away by divers and strange teachings: for it is good that the heart be established by grace; not by meats, wherein they that occupied themselves were not profited.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer thee in this matter.If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of thy hand, O king.But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was wont to be heated.And he commanded certain mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.Then these men were bound in their hosen, their tunics, and their mantles, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego.And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste: he spake and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the aspect of the fourth is like a son of the gods.Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace: he spake and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego, ye servants of the Most High God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego came forth out of the midst of the fire.And the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, that the fire had no power upon their bodies, nor was the hair of their head singed, neither were their hosen changed, nor had the smell of fire passed on them.Nebuchadnezzar spake and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:the one do it of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel;but the other proclaim Christ of faction, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction for me in my bonds.What then? only that in every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and therein I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

for bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come.

And Peter said, Lo, we have left our own, and followed thee.

Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

Then Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

for they loved the glory that is of men more than the glory that is of God.

And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, This poor widow cast in more than they all:for all these did of their superfluity cast in unto the gifts; but she of her want did cast in all the living that she had.

And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have wrongfully exacted aught of any man, I restore fourfold.

I will declare thy righteousness; and as for thy works, they shall not profit thee.

doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself;
