Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying,“ Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.

Brothers and sisters, I have used myself and Apollos as examples to help you. You can learn from us the meaning of the saying,“ Don’t go beyond what is written.” Then you won’t be proud that you follow one of us instead of the other.

I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

Dear brothers and sisters, I have used Apollos and myself to illustrate what I’ve been saying. If you pay attention to what I have quoted from the Scriptures, you won’t be proud of one of your leaders at the expense of another.

Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying:“ Nothing beyond what is written.” The purpose is that none of you will be arrogant, favoring one person over another.

Now these things, brothers and sisters, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos on your account, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.

For when one says,“ I follow Paul,” and another,“ I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings?What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe— as the Lord has assigned to each his task.I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? (niv)

Neither do we go beyond our limits by boasting of work done by others. Our hope is that, as your faith continues to grow, our sphere of activity among you will greatly expand, (niv)

And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this? (niv)
