You are arrogant, and didn’t mourn instead, that he who had done this deed might be removed from among you.

爾猶自矜、而不哀傷、使行此者見擯於爾中、

猶妄自誇大、而不痛哭、使斁倫者、見擯於爾中、

爾猶妄自誇大、而不痛哭、使行此者、見除於爾中、

爾等尚驕矜自滿、而不痛自懲創、毅然擯絕如此亂倫忤逆之子耶。

And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this?

And you are proud! Shouldn’t you be very sad instead? Shouldn’t you have thrown out of your church the man doing this?

And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.

You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship.

And you are arrogant! Shouldn’t you be filled with grief and remove from your congregation the one who did this?

You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst.

And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you.

And you are inflated with pride, instead of filled with grief so that he who has committed this act might be removed from your congregation.

And you are proud! Shouldn’t you have been deeply sorrowful instead and removed the one who did this from among you?

But I have this against you, that you tolerate your woman, Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. She teaches and seduces my servants to commit sexual immorality, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality.Behold, I will throw her into a bed, and those who commit adultery with her into great oppression, unless they repent of her works.

Yahweh said to him,“ Go through the middle of the city, through the middle of Jerusalem, and set a mark on the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry over all the abominations that are done within it.”

For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy offspring have mixed themselves with the peoples of the lands. Yes, the hand of the princes and rulers has been chief in this trespass.”When I heard this thing, I tore my garment and my robe, and pulled the hair out of my head and of my beard, and sat down confounded.Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel were assembled to me, because of their trespass of the captivity; and I sat confounded until the evening offering.At the evening offering I arose up from my humiliation, even with my garment and my robe torn; and I fell on my knees, and spread out my hands to Yahweh my God;and I said,“ My God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to you, my God; for our iniquities have increased over our head, and our guiltiness has grown up to the heavens.

Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before God’s house, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very bitterly.Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered Ezra,“ We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.Now therefore let’s make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and those who are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God. Let it be done according to the law.Arise; for the matter belongs to you, and we are with you. Be courageous, and do it.”Then Ezra arose, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they swore.Then Ezra rose up from before God’s house, and went into the room of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib. When he came there, he ate no bread, nor drank water; for he mourned because of their trespass of the captivity.

and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you while he told us of your longing, your mourning, and your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more.For though I grieved you with my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it. But if you will not hear it, my soul will weep in secret for your pride. My eye will weep bitterly, and run down with tears, because Yahweh’s flock has been taken captive.

Now these things, brothers, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to think beyond the things which are written, that none of you be puffed up against one another.For who makes you different? And what do you have that you didn’t receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?You are already filled. You have already become rich. You have come to reign without us. Yes, and I wish that you did reign, that we also might reign with you.

Kill utterly the old man, the young man, the virgin, little children and women; but don’t come near any man on whom is the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.” Then they began at the old men who were before the house.

because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.

But those who are outside, God judges.“ Put away the wicked man from among yourselves.”

Streams of tears run down my eyes, because they don’t observe your law.

that again when I come my God would humble me before you, and I would mourn for many of those who have sinned before now, and not repented of the uncleanness, sexual immorality, and lustfulness which they committed.

Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.
