Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.

Suppose someone claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister. Then they are still in the darkness.

Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.

If anyone claims,“ I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness.

苟有人自言吾愛天主、而猶嫉惡其兄弟、是亦妄人也已。夫日常所見之兄弟、彼且不知愛焉、尚能愛其向所未見之天主乎。

然則世俗之嫉我兄弟、亦不足為怪矣、須知吾輩已因實行友愛之道、而出死入生，而彼不具愛德者、則依然未脫死域也。凡嫉惡其兄弟、罪同殺人；而殺人者、其無永生存乎其身、可知矣。吾主曾為吾人舍生致命、天主之愛德、於此可見。然則吾人亦宜為兄弟舍生致命矣。若有人擁有斯世之財富、見其兄弟有急、而閉塞其同情之心、則安得有天主之愛德、存於其衷乎。

使我無愛德、而徒能操萬國之音、作天神之語、則猶鳴鑼擊鈸而已矣。使我無愛德、而具先知之靈賦、心通一切玄妙、一切知識、甚至有移山之信、則亦浮華無實耳。使我無愛德、雖罄輸所有、以濟貧寒、甚至捨身以投諸火、亦何益之有。

吾人若曰吾已與天主神交心契、而同時猶行於暗昧之中、是為欺心之人、言不顧行、行不顧言者也

識天主之旨、且熟諳法意、洞悉精微自命為瞽者之相、昏者之光、愚者之師、童蒙之傅、以為一切真知妙識、皆備於法矣；然則爾欲正人、盍先正己！禁人為盜者、豈可自身為盜？

耶穌曰：『苟為盲者、將無罪矣！今爾自以為有見、罪在其中矣！』
