他們離棄了耶和華，去事奉巴力和亞斯她錄。

那時，所羅門為摩押可憎的基抹和亞捫人可憎的摩洛，在耶路撒冷對面的山上建造丘壇。

從前以色列王所羅門在耶路撒冷東邊、邪僻山南邊為西頓人可憎的亞斯她錄、摩押人可憎的基抹、亞捫人可憎的米勒公所築的丘壇，王都玷污了，

因為他們離棄我，敬拜西頓人的女神亞斯她錄、摩押的神明基抹和亞捫人的神明米勒公，沒有像他父親大衛一樣遵從我的道，行我眼中看為正的事，守我的律例典章。

撒母耳對以色列全家說：「你們若全心回轉歸向耶和華，就要從你們中間除掉外邦的神明和亞斯她錄，預備你們的心歸向耶和華，單單事奉他，他必救你們脫離非利士人的手。」以色列人就除掉諸巴力和亞斯她錄，單單事奉耶和華。

以色列人又行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，去事奉諸巴力和亞斯她錄，以及亞蘭的神明、西頓的神明、摩押的神明、亞捫人的神明、非利士人的神明。他們離棄耶和華，不事奉他。

不可使你兒女經火獻給摩洛，也不可褻瀆你神的名。我是耶和華。

「你要對以色列人說：凡以色列人，或是寄居在以色列的外人，把自己兒女獻給摩洛的，必被處死；本地的百姓要用石頭打死他。我也要向那人變臉，把他從百姓中剪除，因為他把兒女獻給摩洛，玷污了我的聖所，褻瀆了我的聖名。那人把兒女獻給摩洛，本地的百姓若假裝沒看見，不把他處死，我就要向這人和他的家人變臉，把他和所有跟隨他與摩洛行淫的人都從百姓中剪除。

他們呼求耶和華說：『我們離棄了耶和華去事奉諸巴力和亞斯她錄，我們有罪了。現在求你救我們脫離仇敵的手，我們必事奉你。』

還有那些在屋頂拜天上萬象的，那些敬拜耶和華指着他起誓，卻又指着米勒公起誓的；

你們且渡到基提海島察看，派人往基達去留心查考，看可曾有過這樣的事。豈有一國換了它的神明嗎？其實那不是神明！但我的百姓將他們的榮耀換了那無益的東西。諸天哪，要因此震驚，顫慄，極其淒涼！這是耶和華說的。因為我的百姓做了兩件惡事：離棄我這活水的泉源；又為自己鑿出水池，卻是破裂不能儲水的池子。」
