After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. He said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

So King Jeroboam asked for advice. Then he made two golden statues that looked like calves. He said to the people,“ It’s too hard for you to go up to Jerusalem. Israel, here are your gods who brought you up out of Egypt.”

So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. And he said to the people,“ You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”

So on the advice of his counselors, the king made two gold calves. He said to the people,“ It is too much trouble for you to worship in Jerusalem. Look, Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of Egypt!”

So the king sought advice. Then he made two golden calves, and he said to the people,“ Going to Jerusalem is too difficult for you. Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”

So the king consulted, and he made two golden calves; and he said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold your gods, Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.”

他們擁立君王，未經我的同意；選立首領，沒有讓我知道。他們用金銀為自己製造神像，自取滅亡。我鄙棄撒瑪利亞人所拜的牛犢，我要向他們發怒，他們到什麼時候才能潔身自守呢？這牛犢是以色列的工匠造的，並不是神，必被砸得粉碎。他們種的是風，收的是暴風。他們的莊稼長不出穗子，結不出籽粒，就是有收成，也要被外族人吃掉。

耶羅波安卻為邱壇、公山羊像和他造的牛犢像設立他自己的祭司。

那時，耶和華吩咐我把律例和典章傳授給你們，好讓你們在將要佔領的土地上遵守。「你們要格外小心，耶和華在何烈山的火焰中對你們說話時，你們沒有看見任何形像，所以不可墮落，去為自己製造任何形狀的神像——男人、女人、飛禽走獸、爬蟲或魚類。

撒瑪利亞的居民要因伯·亞文的牛犢偶像而恐懼顫抖；祭拜它的人要哀傷，供奉它的祭司要痛哭，因為它的榮耀將離開他們。它要被帶到亞述去，作為貢物獻給強大的亞述王。以法蓮因此而受人嘲笑，以色列因自己的偶像而蒙羞。

他們對先見說，『你們不要再看異象了。』又對先知說，『不要再教導我們是非對錯。給我們說些好聽的話，講些虛幻的事吧。

羅波安卻沒有採納老臣的意見。他又去徵詢那些和他一起長大的青年臣僚的意見，說：「民眾求我減輕我父親加給他們的重擔。你們認為我該怎樣回覆他們？」

來吧！我們要設法阻止他們人口增長，否則一遇到戰爭，他們便會加入我們敵人的陣營來攻打我們，然後一走了之。」

耶和華說：「我悖逆的兒女有禍了！他們不遵行我的旨意，按自己的計劃行事；未經我同意，擅自與人結盟，不斷犯罪。

他們應許那些人可以得自由，而自己卻做罪惡的奴隸，因為人被什麼制伏，就被什麼奴役。
