「將來管轄你們的王會徵用你們的兒子做他的戰車兵、騎兵，要他們跑在他的戰車前面。他會派一些人做千夫長、五十夫長，一些人為他耕種田地、收割莊稼，一些人製造兵器和戰車的裝備。他會把你們的女兒帶走，要她們給他造香膏、煮飯和烤餅。他會奪去你們最好的田地、葡萄園和橄欖園，送給他的臣僕。他會從你們的糧食和葡萄園的出產中收取十分之一，送給他的官員和臣僕。他會徵用你們的僕婢及最好的牛和驢來為他效勞。他會拿去你們羊群的十分之一，並讓你們做他的奴僕。將來你們會因所選之王的壓迫而呼求耶和華，耶和華卻不會垂聽你們。」

所羅門在以色列全國設立了十二個地方官，負責供給王及王室的需用，每年每人負責一個月。

所羅門徵召勞役興建耶和華的殿、自己的王宮、米羅堡和耶路撒冷的城牆以及夏瑣、米吉多和基色。

「你父親使我們負擔沉重，求你減輕我們的負擔吧，我們一定效忠你。」羅波安對他們說：「你們三天之後再來見我。」眾人就離開了。

我心柔和謙卑，你們要負我的軛，向我學習，這樣你們的心靈就必得享安息。因為我的軛容易負，我的擔子很輕省。」

他們捆好重擔放在別人肩上，而自己連一根指頭也不肯動！

猶大人和以色列人多如海沙，豐衣足食，生活幸福。所羅門統管列國，從幼發拉底河至非利士，直到埃及邊界。所羅門在世的日子，列國都年年進貢稱臣。王室每天用三千公斤細麵粉、六千公斤粗麵粉、十頭肥牛、二十頭草場的牛、一百隻羊，此外還有鹿、羚羊、麅子及肥禽。所羅門統治幼發拉底河西面所有的國家，從提弗薩直到迦薩，四境安寧。所羅門在世的時候，從但到別示巴的猶大人和以色列人都在自己的葡萄樹和無花果樹下安居。

所羅門王沒有讓以色列人服勞役，而是讓他們做戰士、官長、統帥、將領、戰車長和騎兵長。他還任命五百五十名監工負責監管工人。
