有一次，耶罗波安从耶路撒冷出来，示罗人亚希雅先知在路上遇见他。亚希雅身上穿着一件新衣，那时田野里只有他们二人。

有一天，以利躺卧在自己的地方，他的眼睛早已昏花，不能看得清楚了。

那时以利九十八岁了，眼睛发直，不能看见。

以色列全体会众聚集在示罗，把会幕竖立在那里，因为那地在他们面前被征服了。

以撒年老，眼睛昏花，看不见东西了；他把他的大儿子以扫叫了来，对他说：“我儿啊！”以扫回答他：“我在这里。”

以色列因为年老，眼睛昏花，看不清楚。约瑟领他们到他跟前去，他就与他们亲吻，拥抱他们。

那时，看守房子的发抖，强壮的弯腰，推磨的稀少，都停了工，往窗外看的都昏暗了，

我们一生的年日是七十岁，如果强壮，可到八十岁，但其中可夸耀的，不过是劳苦愁烦；我们的年日转眼即逝，我们也如飞而去了。

耶罗波安对他的妻子说：“你起来改装，使人认不出你是耶罗波安的妻子。到示罗去，有亚希雅先知在那里，他曾对我说，我必作这民的王。

摩西死的时候，已经一百二十岁；他的眼睛没有昏花，他的精力也没有衰退。

军队回到营里，以色列的长老说：“今天耶和华为什么在非利士人面前击败我们呢？我们要把耶和华的约柜从示罗抬到我们这里来。约柜一到我们中间，就会拯救我们脱离仇敌的手。”于是他们派人到示罗去，从那里把坐在二基路伯中间万军之耶和华的约柜抬来；以利的两个儿子，何弗尼和非尼哈，也与神的约柜一同来了。

“你们可以到示罗我的地方去，就是先前我名的居所，看看我因我子民以色列的邪恶，对那地方所行的。现在，因你们行了这一切事，我不断恳切告诫你们，你们却不听；我呼唤你们，你们却不答话。”这是耶和华的宣告。“所以我从前怎样对待示罗，将来也怎样对待你们所倚靠的那称为我名下的殿，以及我赐给你们和你们列祖的地方。
