After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

After the earthquake a fire came. But the Lord wasn’t in the fire. And after the fire there was only a gentle whisper.

So he said to me,“ This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:‘ Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.

No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy on you.

You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness.Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice.

And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming,“ The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.

for our“ God is a consuming fire.”

When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces.

Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.

Elijah answered the captain,“ If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!” Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men.

“ Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,“ Brothers, what shall we do?”

As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.
