以色列王回答說：『你們只要說：「才束上武裝的、休要像解掉了的來誇口。」』

以色列王曰、爾告之云、披甲者、勿效卸甲者而誇、

以色列王對曰、卸甲之士可以凱歌、披甲之士勿效之。

以色列王曰、爾曹告之云、方披甲者勿自誇、卸甲者自誇可也、

The king of Israel answered,“ Tell him:‘ One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.’”

The king of Israel replied. He said,“ Tell him,‘ Someone who puts his armor on shouldn’t brag like someone who takes it off.’ ”

And the king of Israel answered,“ Tell him,‘ Let not him who straps on his armor boast himself as he who takes it off.’”

The king of Israel sent back this answer:“ A warrior putting on his sword for battle should not boast like a warrior who has already won.”

The king of Israel answered,“ Say this:‘ Don’t let the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’”

Then the king of Israel replied,“ Tell him,‘ He who straps on his weapons had better not boast like one who takes them off.’ ”

So the king of Israel answered and said,“ Tell him,‘ Let not the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’”

And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his armor boast himself as he that putteth it off.

The king of Israel answered,“ Say this:‘ Don’t let the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’”

And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell[ him], Let not him that girdeth on[ his harness] boast himself as he that putteth it off.

The king of Israel replied,“ Tell him the one who puts on his battle gear should not boast like one who is taking it off.”

The king of Israel answered,“ Tell him,‘ Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.’”

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. (niv)

Peter replied,“ Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”“ Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered,“ this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”But Peter declared,“ Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same. (niv)

The men of the outpost shouted to Jonathan and his armor-bearer,“ Come up to us and we’ll teach you a lesson.” So Jonathan said to his armor-bearer,“ Climb up after me; the Lord has given them into the hand of Israel.”Jonathan climbed up, using his hands and feet, with his armor-bearer right behind him. The Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer followed and killed behind him. (niv)

Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood!Therefore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame. (niv)

Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken:“ Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly. (niv)

Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer,“ Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.” (niv)

“ Come here,” he said,“ and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!”David said to the Philistine,“ You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” (niv)

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. (niv)
