Then the king of Israel replied,“ Tell him,‘ He who straps on his weapons had better not boast like one who takes them off.’ ”

以色列王回答說：『你們只要說：「才束上武裝的、休要像解掉了的來誇口。」』

以色列王曰、爾告之云、披甲者、勿效卸甲者而誇、

以色列王對曰、卸甲之士可以凱歌、披甲之士勿效之。

以色列王曰、爾曹告之云、方披甲者勿自誇、卸甲者自誇可也、

The king of Israel answered,“ Tell him:‘ One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.’”

The king of Israel replied. He said,“ Tell him,‘ Someone who puts his armor on shouldn’t brag like someone who takes it off.’ ”

And the king of Israel answered,“ Tell him,‘ Let not him who straps on his armor boast himself as he who takes it off.’”

The king of Israel sent back this answer:“ A warrior putting on his sword for battle should not boast like a warrior who has already won.”

The king of Israel answered,“ Say this:‘ Don’t let the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’”

So the king of Israel answered and said,“ Tell him,‘ Let not the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’”

And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his armor boast himself as he that putteth it off.

The king of Israel answered,“ Say this:‘ Don’t let the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’”

And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell[ him], Let not him that girdeth on[ his harness] boast himself as he that putteth it off.

The king of Israel replied,“ Tell him the one who puts on his battle gear should not boast like one who is taking it off.”

The king of Israel answered,“ Tell him,‘ Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.’”

Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring.

But Peter replied to Him,“ Even if they all fall away because of You, I will never fall away!”Jesus said to him,“ Truly I say to you that this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”Peter* said to Him,“ Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” All the disciples said the same thing as well.

So the men of the garrison responded to Jonathan and his armor bearer and said,“ Come up to us and we will inform you of something.” And Jonathan said to his armor bearer,“ Come up after me, for the Lord has handed them over to Israel.”Then Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his armor bearer behind him; and the men fell before Jonathan, and his armor bearer put some to death after him.

Is the axe to boast itself over the one who chops with it? Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it? That would be like a club wielding those who lift it, Or like a rod lifting the one who is not wood.Therefore the Lord, the God of armies, will send a wasting disease among his stout warriors; And under his glory a fire will be kindled like a burning flame.

And Peter remembered the statement that Jesus had made:“ Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

Then Jonathan said to the young man who was carrying his armor,“ Come, and let’s cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised men; perhaps the Lord will work for us, because the Lord is not limited to saving by many or by few!”

The Philistine also said to David,“ Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the wild animals.”But David said to the Philistine,“ You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a saber, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I will strike you and remove your head from you. Then I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,and that this entire assembly may know that the Lord does not save by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will hand you over to us!”

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.
