Now the servants of the king of Aram said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the mountains; for that reason they were stronger than we. But let us fight them in the plain, and we will certainly be stronger than they.

亞蘭王之臣僕謂之曰、以色列人所奉之神、乃山岳之神、故能勝我、如與以色列人戰於平原、我儕必勝之、

Meanwhile, the officials of the king of Aram advised him,“ Their gods are gods of the hills. That is why they were too strong for us. But if we fight them on the plains, surely we will be stronger than they.

During that time, the officials of the king of Aram gave him advice. They said,“ The gods of Israel are gods of the hills. That’s why they were too strong for us. But suppose we fight them on the plains. Then we’ll certainly be stronger than they are.

And the servants of the king of Syria said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the hills, and so they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

After their defeat, Ben hadad’s officers said to him,“ The Israelite gods are gods of the hills; that is why they won. But we can beat them easily on the plains.

Now the king of Aram’s servants said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the hill country. That’s why they were stronger than we were. Instead, we should fight with them on the plain; then we will certainly be stronger than they are.

Then the servants of the king of Syria said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the hills. Therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them in the plain, surely we will be stronger than they.

Now the king of Aram’s servants said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the hill country. That’s why they were stronger than we were. Instead, we should fight with them on the plain; then we will certainly be stronger than they will be.

And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods[ are] gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

Now the advisers of the king of Syria said to him:“ Their God is a god of the mountains. That’s why they overpowered us. But if we fight them in the plains, we will certainly overpower them.

The servants of the king of Syria said to him,“ Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. But let’s fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than they.

For they, too, built for themselves high places, memorial stones, and Asherim on every high hill and under every luxuriant tree.

Then a man of God approached and spoke to the king of Israel, and said,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Since the Arameans have said,“ The Lord is a god of mountains, but He is not a god of valleys,” therefore I will hand over to you all this great multitude, and you shall know that I am the Lord.’ ”

These things you have done and I kept silent; You thought that I was just like you; I will rebuke you and present the case before your eyes.“ Now consider this, you who forget God, Or I will tear you in pieces, and there will be no one to save you.

Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands at all able to save their land from my hand?Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed who could save his people from my hand, that your God would be able to save you from my hand?Now then, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you like this, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to save his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God save you from my hand?’ ”His servants spoke further against the Lord God and against His servant Hezekiah.He also wrote letters to insult the Lord God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying,“ As the gods of the nations of the lands have not saved their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not save His people from my hand.”They called this out with a loud voice in the language of Judah to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten and terrify them, so that they might take the city.They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as they did against the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of human hands.

Woe to us! Who will save us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.

I am the Lord, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, Nor My praise to idols.

Did the gods of the nations which my fathers destroyed save them: Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the sons of Eden who were in Telassar?

I will raise my eyes to the mountains; From where will my help come?My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened.Claiming to be wise, they became fools,and they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible mankind, of birds, four footed animals, and crawling creatures.
