亚哈回答说：“我要耶斯列人拿伯将他的葡萄园卖给我，如果他愿意，我也可以用别的葡萄园跟他交换，可是他不肯。”

亚哈回答她说：“因为我对耶斯列人拿伯说：‘把你的葡萄园让给我，我付你银子；或者你喜欢的话，我可以用另一个葡萄园与你交换’；可是他说：‘我不能把我的葡萄园让给你。’”

He answered her,“ Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite,‘ Sell me your vineyard; or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place.’ But he said,‘ I will not give you my vineyard.’”

He answered her,“ Because I spoke to Naboth from Jezreel. I said,‘ Sell me your vineyard. Or, if you prefer, I’ll give you another vineyard in its place.’ But he said,‘ I won’t sell you my vineyard.’ ”

And he said to her,“ Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him,‘ Give me your vineyard for money, or else, if it please you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ And he answered,‘ I will not give you my vineyard.’”

“ I asked Naboth to sell me his vineyard or trade it, but he refused!” Ahab told her.

“ Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite,” he replied.“ I told him,‘ Give me your vineyard for silver, or if you wish, I will give you a vineyard in its place.’ But he said,‘ I won’t give you my vineyard!’”

So he said to her,“ It is because I was speaking to Naboth the Jezreelite and saying to him,‘ Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you a vineyard in place of it.’ But he said,‘ I will not give you my vineyard.’ ”

He said to her,“ Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him,‘ Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ And he answered,‘ I will not give you my vineyard.’”

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (niv)

Ahab said to Naboth,“ Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth.”But Naboth replied,“ The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my ancestors.”So Ahab went home, sullen and angry because Naboth the Jezreelite had said,“ I will not give you the inheritance of my ancestors.” He lay on his bed sulking and refused to eat. Haman went out that day happy and in high spirits. But when he saw Mordecai at the king’s gate and observed that he neither rose nor showed fear in his presence, he was filled with rage against Mordecai.Nevertheless, Haman restrained himself and went home. Calling together his friends and Zeresh, his wife,Haman boasted to them about his vast wealth, his many sons, and all the ways the king had honored him and how he had elevated him above the other nobles and officials.“ And that’s not all,” Haman added.“ I’m the only person Queen Esther invited to accompany the king to the banquet she gave. And she has invited me along with the king tomorrow.But all this gives me no satisfaction as long as I see that Jew Mordecai sitting at the king’s gate.”His wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him,“ Have a pole set up, reaching to a height of fifty cubits, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai impaled on it. Then go with the king to the banquet and enjoy yourself.” This suggestion delighted Haman, and he had the pole set up. (niv)

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. (niv)

You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us?But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (niv)
