In everything he followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. The high places, however, were not removed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

Jehoshaphat followed all the ways of his father Asa. He didn’t wander away from them. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord. But the high places weren’t removed. The people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense at them.

He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord. Yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places.

Jehoshaphat was a good king, following the example of his father, Asa. He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight. During his reign, however, he failed to remove all the pagan shrines, and the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense there.

是時先見者哈拿尼、覲猶大王亞撒、告之曰、因爾恃亞蘭王、不爾上帝耶和華是賴、故不克亞蘭軍。古實人、路庇人、軍勢浩大、車騎眾多、因爾恃耶和華、故耶和華使爾戰勝之。耶和華遍覽天下、見誠心從之者、則力庇焉。爾弗以之是賴、不智孰甚、嗣後戰鬥、靡有已時。亞撒震怒、幽先見者於獄、虐遇其民。亞撒事實、備載於猶大及以色列列王紀畧。亞撒三十九年、患足疾甚重、延醫調治、不求耶和華。

行善於耶和華前、於父亞馬謝所為、是則是效、惟崇邱猶不廢、民仍獻祭焚香於其上。

亞撒行善為義、於其上帝耶和華前、棄異邦上帝之壇、廢崇坵、毀偶像、伐林木。命猶大族、宗事列祖之上帝耶和華、遵其律例、禁令。在猶大諸邑、廢崇坵、毀日像、國享平康。

亞撒行善於耶和華前、於祖大闢所為、是則是效、

約沙法甚恐、禱耶和華、使猶大舉國禁食。猶大族自諸邑和會、求耶和華。約沙法立於耶和華殿之新院、在猶大耶路撒冷會中、禱曰、我列祖之上帝耶和華、穹蒼之上帝、萬國之主宰、爾有能力、莫之敢禦。昔有人居斯土、上帝啟以色列族而驅之、亞伯拉罕為上帝所眷顧、遂以斯土錫其苗裔、俾為恆業。今以色列族居此、建聖室、為籲爾名之所、自謂如遇災害、或興戎、或譴責、或瘟疫、或飢饉、我至斯殿、以籲爾名、立於爾前、求爾去禍、爾必垂聽援我。昔以色列族、出埃及時、謹守爾命、過亞捫摩押、西耳之地、不侵伐之、不翦滅之、今彼以惡報我、欲行驅逐、出爾所錫之地。願上帝為我一洒之、彼眾我實不能禦、如何則可、惟爾是望。猶大族眾、與其妻孥、侍立耶和華前。屬利未族、亞薩家者、馬大尼玄孫、耶葉曾孫、庇拿雅孫、撒加利亞子雅色、為耶和華神所感、則於會中言於眾、曰、約沙法王、與猶大族耶路撒冷民、宜聽我言。耶和華云、爾勿畏葸、懼斯有眾、蓋攻敵者、非爾、乃上帝也。明日出禦、彼由息巖而至、爾必遇於溪口、近耶魯耳野。猶大族耶路撒冷民歟、明日迎敵、爾毋與戰、成列以待、耶和華拯爾、毋畏葸、必蒙其祐。約沙法率猶大眾、耶路撒冷民、俯伏崇拜耶和華。利未人、哥轄、可喇、二族群起、大聲頌讚以色列族之上帝耶和華。○夙興往提哥亞之野、將行約沙法立而告之曰、猶大族耶路撒冷民、宜聽我言、當信爾之上帝耶和華、自可獲勝、信其先知、自得亨通。既與民議、使人禮服謳歌於軍前、頌讚曰、耶和華恆懷矜憫、當頌讚之。甫頌讚時、耶和華發伏兵、攻猶大之敵、使亞捫摩押二族、及西耳山人、互相攻擊。蓋亞捫摩押二族、攻滅西耳山人、西耳山人既滅、二族自相殘害。猶大人登野中戍樓以望、尸相枕藉、敵眾靡有孑遺。約沙法率眾、得貨財、寶物甚多、剝尸又得財物、不能攜負、因貨財之多、三日取之、猶不盡。越四日集於比喇加谷、頌讚耶和華、故稱谷曰比喇加、迄今其名猶存、約沙法蒙耶和華祐而克敵、於是率猶大族、耶路撒冷民、凱歌還都、鳴琴、鼓瑟、吹角、至耶路撒冷、入耶和華殿、列邦之民、聞耶和華擊敗以色列族之敵、無不畏葸。上帝祐約沙法、國治民安、四郊無事。○

抑爾言恃爾上帝耶和華、何希西家廢其崇坵、去其祭壇、命猶大及耶路撒冷之民、惟在耶路撒冷壇前崇拜乎。

亞撒聞阿特子先知亞薩哩亞之言、則強厥志、在猶大便雅憫地、及所得以法蓮山邑、去可惡之偶像、重葺耶和華廡前之壇。

惟所行邪曲者、耶和華必罰之、俾與惡黨同科、願以色列族、俱享平康兮。

凡恃耶和華、不從驕泰偽為者、福兮。

以色列地之崇坵雖未廢、然亞撒誠心從事耶和華、終身不倦。

勿偏於左、勿偏於右、見惡則遠之。

我非禮不視、深惡邪僻、雖片刻不敢從兮、

大闢所行、除赫人烏利亞之事而外、其餘皆行善於耶和華前、不違所命、以畢其生。

撒母耳曰、毋畏、汝雖嘗行是惡、今而後勿違耶和華、必盡心以服事之。如違耶和華、從事虛妄、無所裨益、無能援手。

行善於耶和華前、於父約轄所為、是則是效、較厥祖大闢、則有遜焉。崇邱猶在、民獻祭焚香於其上、

約沙法效祖大闢善行、宗事上帝、遵從厥命、不蹈以色列族之愆尤、而崇巴力、故蒙耶和華祐。

籲上帝耶和華曰、爾欲援我、民之多寡、力之強弱、無不可以之克敵、我之上帝耶和華歟、求爾助我、蓋我賴爾名、禦斯有眾、願上帝耶和華、毋許人勝爾。

我所諭之道、彼違甚速、鑄犢崇拜祭祀、稱之曰以色列族乎、導爾出埃及之上帝、即此。
