When Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been anointed king to succeed his father David, he sent his envoys to Solomon, because he had always been on friendly terms with David.

Hiram was the king of Tyre. He heard that Solomon had been anointed as king. He heard that Solomon had become the next king after his father David. Hiram had always been David’s friend. So Hiram sent his messengers to Solomon.

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

And the daughter of Tyre[ shall be there] with a gift;[ even] the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.

And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.And he said, What cities[ are] these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.

And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away[ the punishment] thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
