“ But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me,‘ No, we want a king to rule over us’— even though the Lord your God was your king.

“ But then you saw that Nahash, the king of Ammon, was about to attack you. So you said to me,‘ No! We want a king to rule over us.’ You said it even though the Lord your God was your king.

And when you saw that Nahash the king of the Ammonites came against you, you said to me,‘ No, but a king shall reign over us,’ when the Lord your God was your king.

“ But when you were afraid of Nahash, the king of Ammon, you came to me and said that you wanted a king to reign over you, even though the Lord your God was already your king.

But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was coming against you, you said to me,‘ No, we must have a king reign over us’— even though the LORD your God is your king.

But when you saw that Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon was coming against you, you said to me,‘ No, but a king shall reign over us!’ Yet the Lord your God was your king.

And when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites came against you, you said to me,‘ No, but a king shall reign over us,’ when the Lord your God was your king.

And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king.

But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was coming against you, you said to me,‘ No, we must have a king rule over us’— even though the Lord your God is your king.

And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God[ was] your king.

“ When you saw that King Nahash of the Ammonites was advancing against you, you said to me,‘ No! A king will rule over us’– even though the LORD your God is your king!

“ When you saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, you said to me,‘ No, but a king shall reign over us;’ when Yahweh your God was your king.

But Gideon told them,“ I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The Lord will rule over you.” (niv)

They said to him,“ You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”But when they said,“ Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.And the Lord told him:“ Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. But you have now rejected your God, who saves you out of all your disasters and calamities. And you have said,‘ No, appoint a king over us.’ So now present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and clans.” (niv)

Nahash the Ammonite went up and besieged Jabesh Gilead. And all the men of Jabesh said to him,“ Make a treaty with us, and we will be subject to you.”But Nahash the Ammonite replied,“ I will make a treaty with you only on the condition that I gouge out the right eye of every one of you and so bring disgrace on all Israel.” (niv)

Where is your king, that he may save you? Where are your rulers in all your towns, of whom you said,‘ Give me a king and princes’? (niv)

But today you have revolted against my father’s family. You have murdered his seventy sons on a single stone and have made Abimelek, the son of his female slave, king over the citizens of Shechem because he is related to you. (niv)

For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us. (niv)

But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth. (niv)

I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. (niv)

But the people refused to listen to Samuel.“ No!” they said.“ We want a king over us.Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.” (niv)

Thus God repaid the wickedness that Abimelek had done to his father by murdering his seventy brothers.God also made the people of Shechem pay for all their wickedness. The curse of Jotham son of Jerub-Baal came on them. (niv)
