押沙龍在耶路撒冷請了二百人與他同去，都是誠誠實實去的，並不知道其中的真情。

耶西就打發人去叫了他來。他面色光紅，雙目清秀，容貌俊美。耶和華說：「這就是他，你起來膏他。」撒母耳就用角裏的膏油，在他諸兄中膏了他。從這日起，耶和華的靈就大大感動大衛。撒母耳起身回拉瑪去了。

「到了耶和華－你神所賜你的地，得了那地居住的時候，若說：『我要立王治理我，像四圍的國一樣。』你總要立耶和華－你神所揀選的人為王。必從你弟兄中立一人；不可立你弟兄以外的人為王。

女子回答說：「在這裏，他在你們前面。快去吧！他今日正到城裏，因為今日百姓要在邱壇獻祭。在他還沒有上邱壇吃祭物之先，你們一進城必遇見他；因他未到，百姓不能吃，必等他先祝祭，然後請的客才吃。現在你們上去，這時候必遇見他。」

耶穌又用比喻對他們說：「天國好比一個王為他兒子擺設娶親的筵席，就打發僕人去，請那些被召的人來赴席，他們卻不肯來。王又打發別的僕人，說：『你們告訴那被召的人，我的筵席已經預備好了，牛和肥畜已經宰了，各樣都齊備，請你們來赴席。』
