“ Get your swords!” was David’s reply as he strapped on his own. Then 400 men started off with David, and 200 remained behind to guard their equipment.

So David and his men, who numbered about six hundred, set out and left Keilah; they moved around from one place to another. When told that David had escaped from Keilah, Saul called a halt to his expedition.

It is dangerous to have zeal without knowledge, and the one who acts hastily makes poor choices.

A person’s wisdom makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.

The men examined some of their provisions, but they failed to ask the LORD’s advice.

Afterward David’s conscience bothered him because he had cut off an edge of Saul’s robe.He said to his men,“ May the LORD keep me far away from doing such a thing to my lord, who is the LORD’s chosen one, by extending my hand against him. After all, he is the LORD’s chosen one.”

Better to be slow to anger than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper is better than one who captures a city.

Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God’s wrath, for it is written,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head.Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

The one who is slow to anger has great understanding, but the one who has a quick temper exalts folly.

Do not go out hastily to litigation, or what will you do afterward when your neighbor puts you to shame?

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.For human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.

Then David approached the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to go with him, those whom they had left at the Wadi Besor. They went out to meet David and the people who were with him. When David approached the people, he asked how they were doing.But all the evil and worthless men among those who had gone with David said,“ Since they didn’t go with us, we won’t give them any of the loot we retrieved! They may take only their wives and children. Let them lead them away and be gone!”But David said,“ No! You shouldn’t do this, my brothers. Look at what the LORD has given us! He has protected us and has delivered into our hands the raiding party that came against us.Who will listen to you in this matter? The portion of the one who went down into the battle will be the same as the portion of the one who remained with the equipment! Let their portions be the same!”

So David went, accompanied by his six hundred men. When he came to the Wadi Besor, those who were in the rear stayed there.David and four hundred men continued the pursuit, but two hundred men who were too exhausted to cross the Wadi Besor stayed there.
