Abigail didn’t waste any time. She got 200 loaves of bread and two bottles of wine. The bottles were made out of animal skins. She got five sheep that were ready to be cooked. She got a bushel of grain that had been cooked. She got 100 raisin cakes. And she got 200 cakes of pressed figs. She loaded all of it on the backs of donkeys.

摩西對亞倫說：「取香爐來，裡面放些壇上的火，添上香，趕快帶到會眾那裡為他們贖罪，因為耶和華發怒了，瘟疫已經開始。」亞倫就照著摩西的吩咐取來香爐，跑到會眾當中。那時瘟疫已經在人群中蔓延起來。他就在爐中放上香為民眾贖罪。他站在活人和死人中間，瘟疫就止住了。

他們帶來被褥、碗盆、瓦器、小麥、大麥、麵粉、炒麥、豆子、扁豆、蜂蜜、奶油、綿羊和乳酪，送給大衛和跟隨他的人，因為他們想：「眾人在曠野跋涉，一定饑渴疲乏了。」

那天晚上，雅各就在那裡過夜，又挑選牲畜送給哥哥以掃作禮物：母山羊二百隻、公山羊二十隻、母綿羊二百隻、公綿羊二十隻、哺乳的駱駝三十頭及其小駱駝、母牛四十頭、公牛十頭、母驢二十頭、驢駒十頭。雅各把牲畜每類分成一群，交給僕人看管，對他們說：「你們走在前頭，每群牲畜之間要保持一段距離！」又吩咐走在最前面的僕人說：「我哥哥以掃遇到你的時候，如果問你是誰家的人？要到哪裡去？前頭這些牲畜是誰的？你就說，『是僕人雅各要送給他主人以掃的禮物，他自己就跟在後面。』」雅各又吩咐看管第二群、第三群及其餘牲畜的僕人遇見以掃時也要這樣回答，並且一定要說：「你僕人雅各就在後面。」雅各想先用禮物去化解以掃的怨恨，或許見面時以掃會善待他。

暗中送的禮物能平息憤怒，塞進懷裡的賄賂止息盛怒。

他們周圍的人，遠至以薩迦、西布倫和拿弗他利支派的人，都用驢、駱駝、騾子和牛馱來麵餅、無花果餅、葡萄乾、酒和油，又牽來許多牛和羊，以色列境內充滿了歡樂。

「趁著你和告你的人還在去法庭的路上，你要趕緊與對方和解。不然，他會把你交給審判官，審判官會把你交給差役關進監牢。

他們的父親以色列說：「事到如今，只好這樣了。你們帶一些上好的乳香、蜂蜜、香料、沒藥、榧子和杏仁等土產，去送給那人作禮物吧。你們還要帶雙倍的錢，好歸還上次留在你們口袋中的錢，那可能是弄錯了。帶你們的弟弟去見那人吧！願全能的上帝叫那人憐憫你們，讓西緬和便雅憫回來。我若喪子就喪子吧！」

我憑阻止我殺你的以色列的上帝——永活的耶和華起誓，若不是你趕來迎接我，拿八家中不會有一個男子活到明天早上。」
