約拿單沒有聽見他父親叫百姓起誓，所以他伸出手中的杖，以杖頭蘸在蜂房裏，用手取回送入口內，他的眼睛就明亮了。

說：「大人，我們記得那迷惑人的還活着的時候曾說：『三天後我要復活。』

大衛對他說：「你是誰的人？你從哪裏來？」他說：「我是埃及的青年，是亞瑪力人的奴僕。因為我三天前生病，我主人就把我撇棄了。

「你當去召集書珊所有的猶太人，為我禁食三晝三夜，不吃不喝；我和我的宮女也要這樣禁食。然後我違例去晉見王，我若死就死吧！」

耶和華安排一條大魚吞下約拿，約拿在魚腹中三日三夜。

疲乏的，他賜能力；軟弱的，他加力量。就是年輕人也要疲乏困倦，強壯的也必全然跌倒。但那等候耶和華的必重新得力。他們必如鷹展翅上騰；他們奔跑卻不困倦，行走卻不疲乏。
