此後，大衛求問耶和華說：「我可以上猶大的一個城去嗎？」耶和華對他說：「可以上去。」大衛說：「我上哪一個城去呢？」耶和華說：「希伯崙。」

於是約書亞為耶孚尼的兒子迦勒祝福，把希伯崙給他為業。所以希伯崙成了基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒的產業，直到今日，因為他專心跟從耶和華－以色列的神。希伯崙從前名叫基列‧亞巴；亞巴是亞衲族最尊貴的人。於是國中太平，沒有戰爭了。

押沙龍派密使走遍以色列各支派，說：「你們一聽見角聲就說：『押沙龍在希伯崙作王了！』」

掃羅的兒子伊施‧波設聽見押尼珥死在希伯崙，手就發軟，全以色列也都驚惶。
