我将这一切事放在心上，详细考究，就知道义人和智慧人，并他们的作为都在神手中；或是爱，或是恨，都在他们的前面，人不能知道。凡临到众人的事都是一样：义人和恶人都遭遇一样的事；好人，洁净人和不洁净人，献祭的与不献祭的，也是一样。好人如何，罪人也如何；起誓的如何，怕起誓的也如何。

众百姓就到了吉甲那里，在耶和华面前立扫罗为王，又在耶和华面前献平安祭。扫罗和以色列众人大大欢喜。

非利士人和以色列人打仗，以色列人败了，各向各家奔逃，被杀的人甚多，以色列的步兵仆倒了三万。神的约柜被掳去，以利的两个儿子何弗尼、非尼哈也都被杀了。

并且耶和华必将你和以色列人交在非利士人的手里。明日你和你众子必与我在一处了；耶和华必将以色列的军兵交在非利士人手里。”
