但到了懲罰的日子，當毀滅從遠方臨到時，你們要怎麼辦呢？你們要逃到誰那裡求幫助呢？你們要把自己的財富留在哪裡呢？你們只能屈身在被擄的人之中，仆倒在被殺的人中間。即使如此，耶和華的怒氣還不轉消，他的手仍然伸出。禍哉！亞述，我怒氣的棍！他們手中的杖就是我的憤怒。我要派遣他去攻擊一個不敬虔的國家，吩咐他去攻打我所惱怒的子民，擄財掠貨，踐踏他們，如同踐踏街上的泥土。

於是王起來，坐在城門口。有人向全體軍兵傳告說：「看哪，王坐在城門口。」所有人就來到王面前。那時，以色列人已經各自逃回自己的帳篷去了。

以致他撇棄示羅的住所，就是他在人間安居的帳篷。他又把象徵他權能的約櫃給人擄去，把他的榮耀交在敵人的手中，他把他的子民交給刀劍，對他的繼業動怒。青年人被火吞噬，處女沒有喜歌。祭司倒在刀下，寡婦卻不能哭泣。

有一個卑劣之徒恰巧在那裡，他名叫示巴，是便雅憫人比基利的兒子。他吹響號角，說：「我們與大衛無份，在耶西的兒子那裡沒有繼業！以色列啊，各人回自己的帳篷吧！」

以法蓮的子孫是裝備好的弓箭手，但他們在戰鬥之日轉身而逃。

在那裡，以色列軍敗在大衛的臣僕們面前，那天在那裡的殺戮極大，共兩萬人陣亡。
