於是打發人去把非利士人的眾霸主聚集了來，說：『把以色列上帝的櫃送走吧，使它回原處去，免得害死了我們和我們的眾民』；這是因為上帝的手加在那裏極重了，致人於死的驚慌紛亂佈滿了全城。

就像人躲避了獅子，卻遇見了熊；進了屋子，手靠着牆，卻給蛇咬了。

非利士人說：『我們要還給他的應當是甚麼樣的賠罪禮物呢？』他們說：『要照非利士人霸主的數目、用五個金鼠疫疱、五個金老鼠，因為你們眾人和你們的霸主們都遭遇了一樣的疫災。所以要製造你們的鼠疫疱的像、和那毁壞你們的地的老鼠的像；並要將榮耀歸與以色列的上帝，或者他的手會向你們跟你們的神和土地放輕些。

我看見主站在祭壇旁；他說：『你要擊打柱頂，使門檻震動，要把其頭頂都砍掉；其餘留的、我必用刀殺掉，沒有能逃掉的，沒有一個能逃脫的。『即使他們挖到了陰間，就是從那裏、我的手也必把他們捉出來；即使他們爬上天去，就是從那裏、我也必將他們拿下來。即使他們藏在迦密山頂，就是從那裏、我也必搜尋去捉出來；即使他們隱藏在海底、離開我眼前，就是從那裏、我也必吩咐蛇去咬他們。即使他們被仇敵擄去、流亡外國，就是從那裏、我也必吩咐刀劍去殺戮他們；我必拿眼瞪着他們，是要降禍，不是降福。』
