大卫逃走脱身了。他来到拉玛见撒母耳，把扫罗对他所做的一切都告诉了撒母耳。然后他和撒母耳去住在纳约特。有人向扫罗报告说：“看哪，大卫在拉玛的纳约特。”扫罗就派人去捉拿大卫。他们看见一队先知正在说预言，撒母耳站在前头带领他们。神的灵临到扫罗派来的人身上，他们也说预言。有人报告给扫罗，他就派遣另外一些人去，结果他们也说预言。扫罗第三次再派人去，他们也说预言。于是扫罗亲自往拉玛去。他来到在塞库那里的大水窖，询问说：“撒母耳和大卫在哪里？”有人回答：“看哪，在拉玛的纳约特。”扫罗就从那里往拉玛的纳约特去。神的灵也临到他，他一边走一边说预言，一直来到拉玛的纳约特。

耶和华向亚伯兰显现，说：“我必把这地赐给你的后裔。”亚伯兰就在那里为向他显现的耶和华筑了一座祭坛。他又从那里迁移到伯特利东边的山地，并支搭帐篷；帐篷的西边是伯特利，东边是艾。他在那里也为耶和华筑了一座祭坛，呼求耶和华的名。

他在那里筑了一座祭坛，称那地方为伊利-伯特利，因为他逃避他哥哥的时候，神曾在那里向他显现。

在那里雅各立了一座祭坛，称它为伊利-伊罗伊-以色列。

全体民众就到吉甲去，在那里，在耶和华面前确立扫罗为王；又在那里，在耶和华面前献上平安祭。扫罗和以色列众人就在那里大大欢庆。
