But the people refused to heed Samuel’s warning. Instead they said,“ No! There will be a king over us!

But the people refused to listen to Samuel.“ No!” they said.“ We want a king over us.

In spite of what Samuel said, the people refused to listen to him.“ No!” they said.“ We want a king to rule over us.

But the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said,“ No! But there shall be a king over us,

But the people refused to listen to Samuel’s warning.“ Even so, we still want a king,” they said.

But the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay: but we will have a king over us,

The people refused to listen to Samuel.“ No!” they said.“ We must have a king over us.

“ We will not listen to what you claim the LORD has spoken to us!

They come to you in crowds, and they sit in front of you as my people. They hear your words, but do not obey them. For they talk lustfully, and their heart is set on their own advantage.

But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me.

You also have done all these things, says the LORD, and I have spoken to you over and over again. But you have not listened! You have refused to respond when I called you to repent!

So I will choose severe punishment for them; I will bring on them what they dread, because I called, and no one responded, I spoke and they did not listen. They did evil before me; they chose to do what displeases me.”
