“ About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over my people Israel; he will deliver them from the hand of the Philistines. I have looked on my people, for their cry has reached me.”

撒母耳把一瓶膏油倒在扫罗的头上，亲吻他，说：“耶和华已经膏立你做祂子民的首领。

但祂听见他们在苦难中呼求时，仍然眷顾他们。

耶和华说：“我已经看见我子民在埃及所受的苦难，听见了他们因监工的压迫而发出的呼求。我知道他们的痛苦。我下来是要从埃及人手中救他们，带他们离开那里，到一个辽阔肥沃的奶蜜之乡，就是现在迦南人、赫人、亚摩利人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人居住的地方。现在，以色列人的呼求传到我耳中，我也看到了埃及人怎样压迫他们。

求你体恤我的忧伤和痛苦，赦免我的罪恶。

耶和华吩咐他说：“你原路返回，前往大马士革附近的旷野，到了之后要膏立哈薛做亚兰王。然后，再膏立宁示的孙子耶户做以色列王，还要膏立亚伯·米何拉人沙法的儿子以利沙做先知来接替你。

一天，撒母耳对扫罗说：“耶和华差遣我膏立你做祂以色列子民的王，所以你要听从祂的话。

把这瓶膏油倒在他头上，告诉他，‘耶和华说，我膏立你为以色列王。’然后，你要马上开门逃走，不可迟延。”于是，那位年轻的先知启程前往基列的拉末。到了那里，他看见众将领正坐在一起，便说：“将军，我有话对你说。”耶户说：“你想对我们哪一个说话？”他说：“将军啊，我有话对你说。”耶户便站起来，随他进入屋里。他将膏油倒在耶户头上，说：“以色列的上帝耶和华说，‘我膏立你做我以色列子民的王。

你要请耶西参加献祭，我会告诉你怎么做，我会指示你膏立谁。”

过了多年，埃及王死了。以色列人受尽奴役，就哀叹呼求，声音传到上帝那里。上帝听见他们的哀声，顾念从前跟亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各所立的约，就垂顾他们，体恤他们。
