We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority.

We were not expecting people to praise us. We were not looking for praise from you or anyone else. Yet as Christ’s apostles, we could have used our authority over you.

Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ.

As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.

Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor[ yet] of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

nor seeking glory from men( neither from you nor from others), when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.

How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? (niv)

Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do,yet I prefer to appeal to you on the basis of love. It is as none other than Paul— an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus— (niv)

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. (niv)

Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. (niv)

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not the result of my work in the Lord?Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. (niv)

If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple get their food from the temple, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar?In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make full use of my rights as a preacher of the gospel. (niv)

For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. (niv)

Don’t we have the right to food and drink?Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?Or is it only I and Barnabas who lack the right to not work for a living? (niv)

By the humility and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you— I, Paul, who am“ timid” when face to face with you, but“ bold” toward you when away!I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. (niv)
