And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

Then the young men who had grown up with him told him,“ This is what you should say to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!’ This is what you should say to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou[ it] somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little[ finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

The young advisers with whom Rehoboam had grown up said to him,“ Say this to these people who have said to you,‘ Your father made us work hard, but now lighten our burden’– say this to them:‘ I am a lot harsher than my father!

智者儲藏知識，愚人口惹禍端。

埃及王聰明的謀士——瑣安的首領們變得愚不可及。他們怎敢在埃及王面前自稱是古聖先賢的子孫呢？埃及王啊，你的智者在哪裡呢？讓他們把萬軍之耶和華對付埃及的計劃告訴你吧！瑣安的首領愚昧，挪弗的首領糊塗。他們是埃及的房角石，卻把埃及人引入歧途。

明哲知而後行，愚人炫耀愚昧。

愚人說話引起紛爭，他的口招來鞭打。愚人的口自招滅亡，他的嘴坑害他自己。

他們說：「民眾說你父親使他們負擔沉重，請求你減輕他們的負擔。你可以這樣回覆他們，『我的小指頭比我父親的腰還粗。我父親使你們負重擔，我要使你們負更重的擔子；我父親用鞭子打你們，我要用刺鞭打你們。』」

驕傲的人必遭貶抑，謙卑的人必得尊榮。

貪得無厭的人挑起紛爭，信靠耶和華的富足昌盛。

任何智慧、悟性和謀略，都不能對抗耶和華。

戶篩答道：「亞希多弗這次的主意不好！你知道你父親和他的部下，他們都是勇士，現在他們就像丟了熊崽的母熊一樣兇猛。況且你父親是個身經百戰的人，他一定不會跟部下睡在一處。他現在可能藏在山洞或某個地方。要是他襲擊我們的人馬，聽見的人會說押沙龍的軍隊慘敗了。那時候，你手下的人再膽量過人，也會膽戰心驚。因為全以色列都知道你父親是英雄，他的部下都是勇士。因此，我認為你應該把從但到別示巴的那多如海沙的以色列人都聚集起來，然後你親自率領他們出征。這樣不管在哪裡找到大衛，我們就像露水一樣鋪天蓋地襲擊他，讓他全軍覆沒。如果大衛退進一座城裡，我們以色列全軍就拿繩索把那城拉到河谷，連一塊石頭都不留。」

智者小心謹慎，遠離惡事；愚人驕傲自負，行事魯莽。
