偕彼同長之少者曰、斯民謂爾云、爾父使我負重軛、求為我輕之、可答之曰、我之小指、巨於我父之腰、

對曰、斯民曾言、爾父使眾負重軛、請爾輕之、爾則應之曰、我之小指、較父之身尤巨。

The young men who had grown up with him replied,“ The people have said to you,‘ Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

Then the young men who had grown up with him told him,“ This is what you should say to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!’ This is what you should say to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou[ it] somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little[ finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

The young advisers with whom Rehoboam had grown up said to him,“ Say this to these people who have said to you,‘ Your father made us work hard, but now lighten our burden’– say this to them:‘ I am a lot harsher than my father!

The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

智慧人珍藏知識，愚妄人的口速招敗亡。

瑣安的首領們極其愚妄，法老最智慧的謀士們所出的謀略都是愚拙！你們怎麼能對法老說「我是智慧人的子孫，是古代君王的後裔」？你的智慧人在哪裡呢？讓他們告訴你吧，讓他們去明白萬軍之耶和華對埃及所策劃的！瑣安的首領們愚昧，挪弗的首領們被欺哄；埃及眾支派中當房角石的，使埃及人迷失。

聰明人都按知識行事，愚昧人顯露他的愚妄。

愚昧人的嘴捲入爭辯，他的口召來責打。愚昧人的口導致自己的敗亡，他的嘴成為自己靈魂的陷阱。

人的自高，將使他降卑；靈裡謙卑的，必得榮耀。

貪得無厭的，挑動紛爭；依靠耶和華的，必得豐裕。

任何的智慧、聰慧和謀略，都無法在耶和華面前站立得住。

戶篩對押沙龍說：「亞希多弗這次提的建議不好。」戶篩說：「你知道，你父親和他的部下都是勇士，他們現在心裡狂怒如野外被奪去幼崽的母熊；況且你父親是個有經驗的戰士，不會與軍兵在一起過夜。看哪，他現在或躲藏在一個坑中，或躲藏在某個地方。一旦他開始襲擊我們的人，聽見的就會說：『跟從押沙龍的軍兵遭到了殺戮！』縱然有英勇的人，他的心如獅子心，也會徹底消融，因為全以色列都知道你父親是個勇士，與他在一起的也都是英勇的人。因此我建議，把以色列全軍從但到比爾-謝巴都招聚到你這裡，他們多如海邊的沙粒；你親自率領出戰，不管他在哪裡被發現，我們就過去，臨到他如同露水落在地上。這樣，他和所有隨同的人，一個也不會存留。如果他撤到城裡，以色列全軍就拿繩子圍繞那城，把城拖到溪谷裡去，使原處連一粒石子也找不到。」

智慧人有所畏懼，遠離惡事；愚昧人魯莽易怒，無所懼怕。
