Judah turned and saw that they were being attacked at both front and rear. Then they cried out to the Lord. The priests blew their trumpets

亞撒呼求耶和華－他的神說：「耶和華啊，在強弱之間，惟有你能幫助。耶和華－我們的神啊，求你幫助我們，因為我們仰賴你，奉你的名來抵擋這大軍。耶和華啊，你是我們的神，不要讓人勝過你。」

艾城的人回頭，往後一看，看哪，城中煙氣沖天，他們向這邊或那邊都無處可逃。往曠野逃跑的百姓就轉身攻擊那些追趕他們的人。

那些戰車長看見約沙法就說：「這一定是以色列王！」他們轉過去與他交戰。約沙法一呼喊，耶和華就幫助他，神使他們轉離他。

以色列眾人都起來，在巴力‧他瑪擺陣，以色列的伏兵從馬利‧迦巴埋伏的地方衝上前去。全以色列中的一萬精兵來到基比亞前，戰爭十分激烈。便雅憫人卻不知道災禍臨近了。耶和華在以色列面前擊打便雅憫。那日，以色列人殲滅二萬五千一百個便雅憫人，都是拿刀的士兵。便雅憫人看到自己戰敗了。以色列人因為信任在基比亞前所設的伏兵，就在便雅憫人面前假裝撤退。伏兵迅速闖進基比亞；他們繼續前進，用刀殺死全城的人。以色列人預先與伏兵約定在城內放火，以上騰的煙為信號。以色列人從陣上撤退，便雅憫人動手殺死以色列人，約有三十個，就說：「他們仍像以前一樣敗在我們面前。」當煙如柱一般從城中上騰的時候，便雅憫人回頭，看哪，全城已經濃煙沖天了。以色列人又轉身回來，便雅憫人就很驚惶，因為看見災禍臨到自己了。他們在以色列人面前轉身往曠野逃跑，戰況對他們不利，那從城裏出來的也去夾攻，殺滅他們。以色列人圍攻便雅憫人，追趕他們，在他們歇腳之處，直到向日出方向的基比亞的對面，踐踏他們。

並要在患難之日求告我，我必搭救你，你也要榮耀我。」

亞捫人出來，在城門前擺陣；瑣巴與利合的亞蘭人、陀伯人，以及瑪迦人另外在郊野擺陣。約押看見戰陣對着他前後擺列，就把從以色列所有精兵中挑選出來的，擺陣迎戰亞蘭人。他把其餘的兵交在他兄弟亞比篩手裏，亞比篩就擺陣迎戰亞捫人。約押對亞比篩說：「亞蘭人若強過我，你就來幫助我；亞捫人若強過你，我就去幫助你。你要剛強，我們要為自己的百姓，為我們神的城鎮奮勇。願耶和華照他所看為好的去做！」於是，約押和跟隨他的士兵前進攻打亞蘭人；亞蘭人在他面前逃跑。亞捫人見亞蘭人逃跑，他們也在亞比篩面前逃跑進城。約押就離開亞捫人，回耶路撒冷去了。

你必不怕黑夜的驚駭，或是白日飛的箭，

法老逼近的時候，以色列人舉目，看哪，埃及人追來了，就非常懼怕，以色列人向耶和華哀求。
