Some worthless scoundrels gathered around him and opposed Rehoboam son of Solomon when he was young and indecisive and not strong enough to resist them.

Some worthless and evil men gathered around him. They opposed Solomon’s son Rehoboam. At that time Rehoboam was young. He couldn’t make up his mind. He wasn’t strong enough to stand up against those men.

and certain worthless scoundrels gathered about him and defied Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and irresolute and could not withstand them.

Then a whole gang of scoundrels joined him, defying Solomon’s son Rehoboam when he was young and inexperienced and could not stand up to them.

Then worthless and wicked men gathered around him to resist Rehoboam son of Solomon when Rehoboam was young, inexperienced, and unable to assert himself against them.

So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam[ was] one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name[ was] Naamah an Ammonitess.

And they gave him threescore and ten[ pieces] of silver out of the house of Baalberith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

And when all Israel[ saw] that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and[ we have] none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel:[ and] now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.

[ Certain] men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him,[ even] against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.

For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen[ men], which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

And every one[ that was] in distress, and every one that[ was] in debt, and every one[ that was] discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain[ persons is] void of understanding.

Woe to thee, O land, when thy king[ is] a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

And I will give children[ to be] their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain[ persons] shall have poverty enough.

And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And[ then] carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

[ They were] children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which[ be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him.
