亞比央跟他列祖一同長眠，人將他埋葬在大衛城裏；他兒子亞撒接替他作王。以色列王耶羅波安二十年、亞撒登基作猶大王；他在耶路撒冷作王四十一年。他母親名叫瑪迦、是押比沙龍的女兒。亞撒行了永恆主所看為對的事，像他的祖大衛一樣。他將男性廟倡從國中除去，又除掉了他列祖所造的一切偶像。並且把他祖母瑪迦廢掉、不讓她做太后，因為她祖母為亞舍拉造了可憎的像；亞撒把她那可憎的像砍下來，燒在汲淪谿谷邊；只是邱壇還沒有廢掉。然而儘他一生的日子、亞撒的心總是純全全歸向永恆主。亞撒將他父親所分別為聖、和他自己所分別為聖的金銀和器皿、都奉到永恆主殿裏。儘他們一生的日子、在亞撒與以色列王巴沙之間都常有戰事。以色列王巴沙上來要攻擊猶大，修造了拉瑪，不給人出入到猶大王亞撒那裏。於是亞撒將永恆主之殿的府庫和王宮的府庫裏所剩下的金銀、都交在他臣僕手中，打發他們到住大馬色的亞蘭王、希旬的孫子、他伯利們的兒子便哈達那裏去，說：『你我之間必須有個約，像你父親與我父親之間也有個約；看哪，我將金銀送給你做禮物；求你去廢棄你的約、你同以色列王巴沙所立的，使他離開我。』便哈達聽從亞撒王的話，便打發他屬下的軍長去攻打以色列的城市，他們就擊破了以雲、但、亞伯伯瑪迦、基尼烈全境、拿弗他利全境。巴沙聽見、就停止、不修造拉瑪，仍住在得撒。於是亞撒王向猶大眾人公布，不准任何人免役，吩咐他們將巴沙修造拉瑪所用的石頭和木料都運走；亞撒王就用那些材料來修造便雅憫的迦巴以及米斯巴。亞撒其餘的一切事、他一切勇力的事蹟、和他所行的一切事、以及他所建造的城、不是都寫在《猶大諸王記》上麼？只是亞撒年老時候、他腳上卻患了病。亞撒跟他列祖一同長眠，埋葬在他祖大衛城裏，和他列祖同在一處；他兒子約沙法接替他作王。
