他甚至廢了他祖母瑪迦太后的位，因瑪迦造了可憎的亞舍拉。亞撒砍下她的偶像，在汲淪溪邊燒了，只是丘壇還沒有廢去。亞撒一生向耶和華存純正的心。亞撒將他父親所分別為聖與自己所分別為聖的金銀和器皿都奉到耶和華的殿裏。亞撒和以色列王巴沙在世的日子常常交戰。以色列王巴沙上來攻擊猶大，修築拉瑪，不許人從猶大王亞撒那裏出入。於是亞撒把耶和華殿和王宮府庫裏所剩下的金銀都交在他臣僕手中，派他們到住在大馬士革的亞蘭王，就是希旬的孫子，他伯利門的兒子便‧哈達那裏去，說：「你父曾與我父立約，我與你也要這樣立約。看哪，我把金銀送給你作禮物，請你廢掉你與以色列王巴沙所立的約，使他從我這裏撤退。」便‧哈達聽從了亞撒王，就派遣他的軍官去攻打以色列的城鎮，攻下了以雲、但、亞伯‧伯‧瑪迦、全基尼烈、拿弗他利全地。巴沙聽見了，就停工不修築拉瑪，仍住在得撒。於是亞撒王向猶大眾人宣佈，不准任何人推辭，吩咐他們運走巴沙修築拉瑪所用的石頭和木料。亞撒王用它們來修築便雅憫的迦巴和米斯巴。亞撒其餘的事，他英勇的事蹟，凡他所做的，以及他所建築的城鎮，不都寫在《猶大列王記》上嗎？只是亞撒年老的時候患有腳疾。亞撒與他祖先同睡，與他祖先同葬在大衛城，他兒子約沙法接續他作王。

在耶路撒冷作王三年。他母親名叫瑪迦，是押沙龍的女兒。

你要拆毀他們的祭壇，打碎他們的柱像，砍斷他們的亞舍拉。

此外，在伯特利丘壇的壇，就是尼八的兒子耶羅波安所築、使以色列人陷入罪裏的，他也把這壇和丘壇都拆毀了，又焚燒丘壇，打碎成灰，並焚燒了亞舍拉。

他把亞舍拉從耶和華殿裏搬到耶路撒冷外的汲淪溪，在汲淪溪邊焚燒，打碎成灰，把灰撒在平民的墳上。

拆毀祭壇，把亞舍拉和雕刻的像打碎成灰，砍斷以色列全地所有的香壇。於是他回耶路撒冷去了。

若還有人說預言，生他的父母必對他說：『你不得存活，因為你假借耶和華的名說謊話。』生他的父母在他說預言時，要將他刺死。

他將他們所鑄的牛犢用火焚燒，磨得粉碎，撒在水面上，叫以色列人喝。

他對他們說：「耶和華－以色列的上帝這樣說：『你們各人把刀佩在腰間，從這門到那門，來回走遍全營，各人要殺自己的弟兄、鄰舍和親人。』」利未人遵照摩西的話做了。那一天百姓中倒下的約有三千人。

亞撒行耶和華－他上帝眼中看為善為正的事，除掉外邦的祭壇和丘壇，打碎柱像，砍下亞舍拉，吩咐猶大人尋求耶和華－他們列祖的上帝，遵行他的律法和誡命，又在猶大各城鎮除掉丘壇和香壇。在他治理下，國中太平。

「你的同胞兄弟，或是你的兒女，或是你懷中的妻，或是如同自己性命的朋友，若暗中引誘你，說：『我們去事奉別神吧。』那是你和你列祖所不認識的，你四圍列國的神明，無論是離你近或離你遠，從地這邊到地那邊，你都不可附和他，也不要聽從他。你的眼不可顧惜他，不可憐憫他，也不可袒護他。

你們卻要這樣處置他們：拆毀他們的祭壇，打碎他們的柱像，砍斷他們的亞舍拉，用火焚燒他們雕刻的偶像。

猶大列王在亞哈斯樓房頂上所築的壇和瑪拿西在耶和華殿兩院中所築的壇，王都拆毀，從那裏移走，把灰倒在汲淪溪中。

所以，從今以後，我們不再按照人的看法來認識人，縱使我們曾經按照人的看法認識基督，如今卻不再這樣認識他了。

我把那使你們犯罪所鑄的牛犢拿來，用火焚燒，搗碎後再磨成粉末，好像灰塵。我把這灰塵撒在從山上流下來的溪水中。

關於自己的父母，他說：我未曾關注。他的弟兄，他不承認，他的兒女，他也不認識，因為利未人遵行你的話，謹守你的約。

那時，耶穌的母親和他兄弟來，站在外邊，打發人去叫他。有許多人在耶穌周圍坐着，他們就告訴他說：「看哪！你母親、你兄弟和你姊妹在外邊找你。」耶穌回答他們：「誰是我的母親？誰是我的兄弟？」就環視那周圍坐着的人，說：「看哪，我的母親，我的兄弟！凡遵行上帝旨意的人就是我的兄弟姊妹和母親。」

耶穌的家人聽見，就出來要拉住他，因為他們說他癲狂了。

我要摧毀你們的丘壇，砍掉你們的香壇，把你們的屍首扔在你們偶像的殘骸上。我的心也必厭惡你們，

你們要用火焚燒他們神明的雕刻偶像；不可貪愛偶像上的金銀，也不可私自收起來，免得你因此陷入圈套，因為這是耶和華－你上帝所憎惡的。你不可把可憎之物帶進你的家，否則，你就像它一樣成為當毀滅的。你要徹底憎恨它，極其厭惡它，因為這是當毀滅的。」
