以色列人哀求耶和华说：“我们得罪了你，因为我们离弃了我们的上帝，去事奉诸巴力。”耶和华对以色列人说：“我岂没有救你们脱离埃及人、亚摩利人、亚扪人和非利士人吗？西顿人、亚玛力人和马云人欺压你们，你们哀求我，我也拯救你们脱离他们的手。你们竟离弃我去事奉别神！所以我不再救你们了。你们去哀求你们所选择的神明；你们遭遇急难的时候，让它们救你们吧！”以色列人对耶和华说：“我们犯罪了，照你看为好的待我们，只求你今日拯救我们吧！”以色列人就除掉他们中间的外邦神明，事奉耶和华。耶和华因以色列所受的苦难而心里焦急。

然而，他听见他们哀告的时候，就眷顾他们的急难，

又有以赛亚放胆说：“没有寻找我的，我要让他们寻见；没有求问我的，我要向他们显现。”

以色列啊，你要归向耶和华—你的上帝，你因自己的罪孽跌倒了。当归向耶和华，用言语向他说：“求你除尽罪孽，悦纳善行，我们就用嘴唇的祭代替牛犊献上。亚述不能救我们，我们不再骑马，也不再对我们手所造的偶像说：‘你是我们的上帝’；孤儿在你那里得蒙怜悯。”

以色列人呼求耶和华，耶和华就为以色列人兴起一位拯救者来救他们，就是迦勒的弟弟基纳斯的儿子俄陀聂。耶和华的灵降在他身上，他就作了以色列的士师。他出去争战，耶和华将亚兰王古珊‧利萨田交在他手中，他的手战胜了古珊‧利萨田。
