In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.

Baasha was king of Israel. He marched out against Judah. It was in the 36th year of Asa’s rule over Judah. Baasha built up the walls of Ramah. He did it to keep people from leaving or entering the territory of Asa, the king of Judah.

In the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and built Ramah, that he might permit no one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

In the thirty sixth year of Asa’s reign, King Baasha of Israel invaded Judah and fortified Ramah in order to prevent anyone from entering or leaving King Asa’s territory in Judah.

他又召聚了猶大和便雅憫所有的人，以及在他們中間寄居的以法蓮人、瑪拿西人、西緬人。以色列人看見了耶和華亞撒的神和他同在，就有很多人投奔亞撒。

全以色列的祭司和利未人，都從各地來歸向羅波安。利未人放棄了他們的草場和產業，來到猶大和耶路撒冷，是因為耶羅波安和他的兒子排斥他們，不准他們作祭司事奉耶和華。耶羅波安為邱壇、公山羊神，以及他鑄造的牛犢，自己設立了祭司。以色列眾支派中所有定意尋求耶和華以色列的神的，都隨著利未人來到耶路撒冷，向耶和華他們列祖的神獻祭。這樣，他們就加強了猶大國的勢力，使所羅門的兒子羅波安強盛了三年，因為他們在這三年，跟隨了大衛和所羅門的道路。

這民若是上去，在耶路撒冷耶和華的殿裡獻祭，這民的心就必歸向他們的主猶大王羅波安，他們必把我殺了，然後回到猶大王羅波安那裡去。”

亞撒與以色列王巴沙在世的日子，雙方常有戰爭。以色列王巴沙上來攻擊猶大，修築拉瑪，不准人進出到猶大王亞撒那裡。於是亞撒把耶和華殿和王宮的府庫裡所剩下的金銀，都交在他臣僕的手中。亞撒王差派他們到大馬士革的亞蘭王，希旬的孫子、他伯利們的兒子便．哈達那裡去，說：“你父與我父之間曾經立過約，我也要與你立約。現在我把金銀送給你作禮物，請你去廢除與以色列王巴沙所立的約，好使他離開我。”便．哈達聽從亞撒王的話，派遣他的眾軍長去攻擊以色列的各城。他們攻破了以雲、但、亞伯．伯．瑪迦、基尼烈全境和拿弗他利全地。巴沙聽見了，就停止修築拉瑪，仍然留在得撒。於是亞撒王通告猶大眾人，沒有一個人例外。他們就把巴沙修築拉瑪所用的石頭和木料運走；亞撒王用那些材料來修築便雅憫的迦巴和米斯巴。

那時，出入的人都沒有平安，因為各國的居民都遭遇動亂。
