他作王第八年，尚且年轻，就寻求他祖先大卫的上帝。到了十二年，他开始洁净犹大和耶路撒冷，除掉丘坛、亚舍拉、雕刻的像和铸造的像。众人在他面前拆毁诸巴力的坛，砍断坛上高高的香坛，又把亚舍拉和雕刻的像，以及铸造的像打碎成灰，撒在向偶像献祭之人的坟上，把祭司的骸骨烧在他们的坛上，洁净了犹大和耶路撒冷。他又在玛拿西、以法莲、西缅、拿弗他利各城和四围的废墟，拆毁祭坛，把亚舍拉和雕刻的像打碎成灰，砍断以色列全地所有的香坛。于是他回耶路撒冷去了。

说：“你这充满各样诡诈奸恶，魔鬼的儿子，一切正义的仇敌，你还不停止扭曲主的正道吗？

他们要歌颂耶和华的作为，因耶和华大有荣耀。

这一切事都完毕以后，在那里的以色列众人就到犹大的城镇，打碎柱像，砍断亚舍拉，又在犹大、便雅悯、以法莲、玛拿西遍地把丘坛和祭坛完全拆毁。于是以色列众人各回各城，各归自己产业的地去了。

那时，你要以全能者为喜乐，向上帝仰脸。

因为我遵守耶和华的道，未曾作恶离开我的上帝。他的一切典章常在我面前，他的律例我也未曾丢弃。

智慧人必明白这些事，聪明人必知道这一切。耶和华的道是正直的，义人行在其中，罪人却在其上跌倒。

行为正直、遵行耶和华律法的，这人有福了！

除掉外邦的祭坛和丘坛，打碎柱像，砍下亚舍拉，

因为你富裕的时候，不以欢喜快乐的心事奉耶和华—你的上帝，
