So the king of Israel brought together the prophets— four hundred men— and asked them,“ Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I not?”“ Go,” they answered,“ for God will give it into the king’s hand.”

So the king of Israel brought 400 prophets together. He asked them,“ Should we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or not?”“ Go,” they answered.“ God will hand it over to you.”

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them,“ Shall we go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain?” And they said,“ Go up, for God will give it into the hand of the king.”

So the king of Israel summoned the prophets, 400 of them, and asked them,“ Should we go to war against Ramoth gilead, or should I hold back?” They all replied,“ Yes, go right ahead! God will give the king victory.”

So the king of Israel gathered the prophets, four hundred men, and asked them,“ Should we go to Ramoth-gilead for war or should I refrain?” They replied,“ March up, and God will hand it over to the king.”

So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, four hundred men, and said to them,“ Should we go to battle against Ramoth gilead, or should I refrain?” And they said,“ Go up, for God will hand it over to the king.”

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them,“ Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?” So they said,“ Go up, for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.”

Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver[ it] into the king’s hand.

So the king of Israel assembled 400 prophets and asked them,“ Should we attack Ramoth Gilead or not?” They said,“ Attack! God will hand it over to the king.”

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them,“ Shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” They said,“ Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

They keep saying to those who despise me,‘ The Lord says: You will have peace.’ And to all who follow the stubbornness of their hearts they say,‘ No harm will come to you.’ (niv)

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. (niv)

And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen something horrible: They commit adultery and live a lie. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that not one of them turns from their wickedness. They are all like Sodom to me; the people of Jerusalem are like Gomorrah.” (niv)

Therefore I will give their wives to other men and their fields to new owners. From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit.They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.“ Peace, peace,” they say, when there is no peace. (niv)

But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. (niv)

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!Your prophets, Israel, are like jackals among ruins.You have not gone up to the breaches in the wall to repair it for the people of Israel so that it will stand firm in the battle on the day of the Lord.Their visions are false and their divinations a lie. Even though the Lord has not sent them, they say,“ The Lord declares,” and expect him to fulfill their words.Have you not seen false visions and uttered lying divinations when you say,“ The Lord declares,” though I have not spoken?“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you, declares the Sovereign Lord.My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.“‘ Because they lead my people astray, saying,“ Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash,therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth.When the wall collapses, will people not ask you,“ Where is the whitewash you covered it with?”“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury.I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the Lord.So I will pour out my wrath against the wall and against those who covered it with whitewash. I will say to you,“ The wall is gone and so are those who whitewashed it,those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her when there was no peace, declares the Sovereign Lord.”’ (niv)

Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies, when I had brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives, (niv)

Elisha said to the king of Israel,“ Why do you want to involve me? Go to the prophets of your father and the prophets of your mother.”“ No,” the king of Israel answered,“ because it was the Lord who called us three kings together to deliver us into the hands of Moab.” (niv)

Jeremiah the prophet and said to him,“ Please hear our petition and pray to the Lord your God for this entire remnant. For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few are left.Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.” (niv)

Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.” (niv)

Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord and said,‘ I will entice him.’“‘ By what means?’ the Lord asked.“‘ I will go and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said.“‘ You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord.‘ Go and do it.’ (niv)

Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they look for the Lord’s support and say,“ Is not the Lord among us? No disaster will come upon us.” (niv)

In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from Gibeon, said to me in the house of the Lord in the presence of the priests and all the people:“ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:‘ I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.Within two years I will bring back to this place all the articles of the Lord’s house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed from here and took to Babylon.I will also bring back to this place Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and all the other exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the Lord,‘ for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’”Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah before the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord.He said,“ Amen! May the Lord do so! May the Lord fulfill the words you have prophesied by bringing the articles of the Lord’s house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon.Nevertheless, listen to what I have to say in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people:From early times the prophets who preceded you and me have prophesied war, disaster and plague against many countries and great kingdoms.But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognized as one truly sent by the Lord only if his prediction comes true.”Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it,and he said before all the people,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ In the same way I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations within two years.’” At this, the prophet Jeremiah went on his way.After the prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:“ Go and tell Hananiah,‘ This is what the Lord says: You have broken a wooden yoke, but in its place you will get a yoke of iron.This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will put an iron yoke on the necks of all these nations to make them serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I will even give him control over the wild animals.’”Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet,“ Listen, Hananiah! The Lord has not sent you, yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies.Therefore this is what the Lord says:‘ I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. This very year you are going to die, because you have preached rebellion against the Lord.’”In the seventh month of that same year, Hananiah the prophet died. (niv)

Then King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah the prophet and had him brought to the third entrance to the temple of the Lord.“ I am going to ask you something,” the king said to Jeremiah.“ Do not hide anything from me.”Jeremiah said to Zedekiah,“ If I give you an answer, will you not kill me? Even if I did give you counsel, you would not listen to me.”But King Zedekiah swore this oath secretly to Jeremiah:“ As surely as the Lord lives, who has given us breath, I will neither kill you nor hand you over to those who want to kill you.”Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah,“ This is what the Lord God Almighty, the God of Israel, says:‘ If you surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, your life will be spared and this city will not be burned down; you and your family will live.But if you will not surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, this city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians and they will burn it down; you yourself will not escape from them.’”King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah,“ I am afraid of the Jews who have gone over to the Babylonians, for the Babylonians may hand me over to them and they will mistreat me.”“ They will not hand you over,” Jeremiah replied.“ Obey the Lord by doing what I tell you. Then it will go well with you, and your life will be spared.But if you refuse to surrender, this is what the Lord has revealed to me:All the women left in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon. Those women will say to you:“‘ They misled you and overcame you— those trusted friends of yours. Your feet are sunk in the mud; your friends have deserted you.’“ All your wives and children will be brought out to the Babylonians. You yourself will not escape from their hands but will be captured by the king of Babylon; and this city will be burned down.”Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah,“ Do not let anyone know about this conversation, or you may die.If the officials hear that I talked with you, and they come to you and say,‘ Tell us what you said to the king and what the king said to you; do not hide it from us or we will kill you,’then tell them,‘ I was pleading with the king not to send me back to Jonathan’s house to die there.’”All the officials did come to Jeremiah and question him, and he told them everything the king had ordered him to say. So they said no more to him, for no one had heard his conversation with the king.And Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard until the day Jerusalem was captured. If a liar and deceiver comes and says,‘ I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer,’ that would be just the prophet for this people! (niv)

that you made a fatal mistake when you sent me to the Lord your God and said,‘ Pray to the Lord our God for us; tell us everything he says and we will do it.’ (niv)

When he arrived, the king asked him,“ Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I not?”“ Attack and be victorious,” he answered,“ for they will be given into your hand.” (niv)
