Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David, the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David. He had promised to maintain a lamp for him and his descendants forever.

But the Lord didn’t want to destroy the royal family of David. That’s because the Lord had made a covenant with him. The Lord had promised to keep the lamp of David’s kingdom burning brightly. The Lord had promised that for David and his children after him forever.

Yet the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and since he had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons forever.

But the Lord did not want to destroy David’s dynasty, for he had made a covenant with David and promised that his descendants would continue to rule, shining like a lamp forever.

but for the sake of the covenant the LORD had made with David, he was unwilling to destroy the house of David since the LORD had promised to give a lamp to David and to his sons forever.

當你壽數滿足，與你列祖長眠時，我必興起你親生的後裔接續你，也必堅立他的王權。他將為我的名建造殿宇，我必堅立他的王位，直到永遠。我要作他的父親，他要作我的兒子。當他行事扭曲，我要用人的杖、用世人的鞭來懲戒他；我的慈愛卻不會離開他，像離開在你面前所廢除的掃羅那樣。你的家和你的國必在我面前永遠堅固，你的王位必永遠堅立。』」拿單就把這一切話語，把這整個異象，如實地告訴了大衛。

他在他的僕人大衛家中，為我們興起了一隻救恩的角，

照亮那些坐在黑暗和死亡陰影中的人，引導我們的腳步進入平安之路。」

「讓我們上去攻擊猶大，恐嚇它，攻破它歸我們，並在其中立塔比勒的兒子為王」，但主耶和華如此說：「這事必立不住，也不會得逞，

我要向他持守我的慈愛，直到永遠；我與他所立的約也必堅定。我要堅立他的後裔，直到永遠；使他的寶座如天之久。如果他的子孫離棄我的律法，不照著我的法規而行；如果他們褻瀆我的律例，不遵守我的誡命；我就要用杖懲罰他們的過犯，用鞭懲罰他們的罪孽。然而，我不會從他身上收回我的慈愛，也不會背棄我的信實。我不會違背我的約，也不會改變我口中所出的話。

在那裡，我要使一個角為大衛長出來，為我的受膏者擺好燈盞。我必使他的仇敵披上恥辱；而他的冠冕必在他頭上發光。」

你廢棄了與你僕人所立的約，把他的冠冕踐踏在地。

我的家在神面前，不正是這樣嗎？他與我立下永遠的約，既全備又穩妥。我的一切拯救和一切願望，他不都成全嗎？

洗魯雅的兒子亞比篩幫助大衛，攻擊那非利士人，把他殺了。那時大衛的部下向他起誓說：「你不可再與我們一起出戰，以免把以色列的燈熄滅了。」

耶和華以信實向大衛起了誓，必不收回，他說：「我將從你親生的後裔中，立一位坐在你的寶座上。
