耶和華卻因自己與大衛所立的約，不肯滅絕大衛的家，要照他所應許的，永遠賜燈光給大衛和他的子孫。

耶和華－以色列的神啊，你向你僕人我父大衛應許說：『你的子孫若謹慎自己的行為，遵行我的律法，像你在我面前所行的，就不斷有人在我面前坐以色列的王位。』現在求你信守這話。

當你壽數滿足、與你祖先同睡的時候，我必使你身所生的後裔接續你；我也必堅定他的國。

耶和華必成就他所說關於我的話，說：『你的子孫若謹慎自己的行為，盡心盡意憑信實行在我面前，就不斷有人坐以色列的王位。』

耶何耶大使王和百姓與耶和華立約，作耶和華的子民，又使王與百姓立約。

我就必堅固你國度的王位，正如我與你父大衛所立的約，說：『你的子孫必不斷有人治理以色列。』

你的家和你的國必在你面前永遠堅立，你的王位也必堅定，直到永遠。』」

於是以色列的眾長老都來到希伯崙見王。大衛在希伯崙，在耶和華面前與他們立約，他們就膏大衛作以色列的王。

他的後裔要存到永遠，他的寶座在我面前如太陽，

我就必堅固你在以色列國度的王位，直到永遠，正如我應許你父大衛說：『你的子孫必不斷有人坐以色列的王位。』

我也要使他的後裔存到永遠，使他的寶座如天之久。

耶何耶大與眾百姓，又與王立約，要作耶和華的子民。

於是以色列的眾長老都來到希伯崙見王。大衛在希伯崙，在耶和華面前與他們立約，他們就膏大衛作以色列的王，正如耶和華藉撒母耳所說的話。

和他們的弟兄，按着家譜登記，共有九百五十六名；這些人都是族長。祭司中有耶大雅、耶何雅立、雅斤，還有管理神殿的亞撒利雅，亞撒利雅是希勒家的兒子，希勒家是米書蘭的兒子，米書蘭是撒督的兒子，撒督是米拉約的兒子，米拉約是亞希突的兒子。還有瑪基雅的曾孫，巴施戶珥的孫子，耶羅罕的兒子亞大雅；又有瑪賽，瑪賽是亞第業的兒子，亞第業是雅希細拉的兒子，雅希細拉是米書蘭的兒子，米書蘭是米實利密的兒子，米實利密是音麥的兒子。他們和他們的弟兄都是族長，共有一千七百六十人，都善於做神殿的事工。利未人米拉利的子孫中有哈沙比雅的曾孫，押利甘的孫子，哈述的兒子示瑪雅；有拔巴甲、黑勒施、加拉和亞薩的曾孫，細基利的孫子，米迦的兒子瑪探雅；又有耶杜頓的曾孫，加拉的孫子，示瑪雅的兒子俄巴底，還有以利加拿的孫子，亞撒的兒子比利家。他們都住在尼陀法人的村莊。守衛是沙龍、亞谷、達們、亞希幔和他們的弟兄；沙龍是領袖。從前這些人看守朝東的王門，如今是利未人營中的守衛。可拉的曾孫，以比雅撒的孫子，可利的兒子沙龍，和他父家的弟兄可拉人管理事務，看守會幕的門。他們的祖宗曾管理耶和華的軍營，把守營的入口。從前以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈管理他們，耶和華也與他同在。米施利米雅的兒子撒迦利雅是看守會幕門口的。被選作門口守衛的總共有二百一十二名。他們在自己的村莊，按着家譜登記，是大衛和撒母耳先見所派擔當這受託之職任的。他們和他們的子孫看守耶和華殿的門，就是會幕的門口。在東西南北，四方都有守衛。他們的弟兄住在村莊，每七日來與他們換班。這些守衛的四個領袖都是利未人，各有受託的職任，看守神殿的房間和寶庫。他們住在神殿的四圍，受託看守聖殿，負責每日早晨開門。
